NSW Police Officer charged for alleged mistreatment of the former Greens candidate

A police officer will be confronted by the court after being accused of hitting the former candidate candidate of the Federal Greens Hannah Thomas during a protest in Sydney earlier this year.
Thomas suffered a serious eye injury that required surgery when it was arrested during a protest on 27 June outside a company in Sydney that was reportedly connected to the production of components for United States fighter jets used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Thomas was initially accused of resisting the police – a case since then by officers of Justice – and her lawyers have marked civil proceedings in the Supreme Court for “malignant prosecution” and abuse and battery by the police.
The police accused the arresting officer on Tuesday of abuse with a physical injury.

The 33-year-old senior agent is scheduled to supplement the local court of Bankstown on November 18.

“While the police tried to move on some demonstrators, a 35-year-old woman suffered facial tiles and was admitted to the hospital for treatment,” said a police statement.

“The officer is managed at the workplace and his labor status is assessed.”
Senior Police initially defended the actions of the officer and opposed calls to start a critical incident investigation, which activates supervision measures, including detectives from another police command.
“I feel at ease based on the information that I provided that I have not indicated the case a criticism incident,” said assistant commissioner Brett McFadden three days after Thomas’s arrest on 30 June.

MCFADden made those comments shortly before an internal investigation into Thomas’ alleged attack was placed under the Professional Standards Command of the police.

The police ordered the costs of demonstrators to pay after the decrease of cases

Five people were arrested outside of Secplating in Belmore, who denied alleged ties with the IDF.

Criminal cases against four protesters and including an attacking language statement against a 41-year-old now dropped.

On Friday, a magistrate ordered the police to pay costs for an amount of $ 39,435 to the four, including $ 21,000 in Thomas. The arrests are subject to an internal NSW Police review, with external supervision by the police watchdog.
Thomas was accused of hindering or resisting the police and two counts to refuse to meet a inspection before the allegations were formally withdrawn earlier in September.
After the charges were withdrawn, her lawyer, Peter O’Brien, said that the arresting officer in question would be charged, and others should “certainly be disciplined”.
He confirmed that legal representatives would seek costs for the prosecution and reimbursement for Thomas.
She finished second with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in his inner Western Sydney -seat from Grayndler in the federal elections in May.
