Every October the US will notice LGBTQ+ History Monththat includes National Coming Out Day On October 11, the day, celebrated since 1988, honors the meaning of the release or inviting of others and increases awareness about LGBTQ+ rights. Coming out is a personal choice and often an important part of recovering the right to live authentically in someone’s identity publicly. The human rights campaign says that “coming out” is a common term to acknowledge that it is LGBTQ+, but it is not about looking for permission to be who you are. To embrace and celebrate the courage of people who have come out, NPR invites you to share how you invited people to this part of your life.

Your story could be included in the First on Newsletter on October 12. Use the form below and tell us about your upcoming story. You can also upload a photo or send a speech memo. Photos must be taken by you and unprocessed.

Send the answers by October 1.
