NPCI acknowledged minor teething issues in its new Check Truncation System – Continuous Clearing, which started on October 4, 2025. Since then, checks of ₹ 2.56 crore worth over ₹ 3.01 lakh crore have been processed and all instruments presented for clearing have been confirmed.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said some teething problems are still being observed in the systems and processes of “Cheque Truncation System (CTS) – Continuous Clearing” at the central system and some banks.
The umbrella entity, which is responsible for operating retail payment and settlement systems in India, stressed in a statement that efforts are being made to address the remaining challenges and ensure that all checks presented are paid on the same day.
“We note that some customers have experienced delays in the first few days due to delays in the clearing process. We regret any inconvenience caused by these delays.
“We remain committed to ensuring smooth check clearing and appreciate your continued support and understanding as we transition to Continuous Clearing,” NPCI said.
Millions of checks have been successfully processed
From October 4, 2025, till date, NPCI has facilitated positive approval of instruments of ₹ 2.56 crore through the central system, amounting to over ₹ 3,01,000 crore, according to data shared by the Corporation.
So far, every instrument submitted for clearing by the banks has been approved and positive/negative confirmation has been given, NPCI said.
Further, banks have been advised to credit their customers’ accounts for the positively endorsed cheques.
The Reserve Bank announced on August 13, 2025 the transition of the Check Truncation System (CTS) from batch processing to continuous clearing with settlement on realization. The shift will be implemented in two phases: phase 1 on October 4, 2025 and phase 2 on January 3, 2026.
