Friday, November 7th is here and it is celebrated here in Nynäshamn with bright sunshine and spring feelings (?). My new old fall coat hangs almost untouched and it doesn’t make me sad. Here’s a little potpourri of photos and thoughts from the past week – and a little of what lies ahead.
November, working day and new travels
#1. The hunt (the constant) for daylight
I am not one of the mushroom people who turn their laser gaze to the earth and the mulberry tree in search of the gold of the forest. No, I’m chasing other gold…
…and instead he turns his face towards the glistening rays of sunlight that appear every now and then during the usually gloomy month of November. Recently I combined utility with pleasure and embarked on the best run of the fall so far. Supplementing with vitamin D feels almost vital this time of year.

#2. November weekend in Sweden – where should we go?

Tobias and I, together with our friends, are having a hard time deciding where to go for the fall weekend. We have already received a preview of last year’s successful day on the High Coast and would like to experience something similar again. The suggestions are really good, everything from sauna i.e The adventure mine in Tuna-Hästberg for a day at Högbo Brukshotell, but nothing is certain. Do you have any suggestions for us? We want to be reasonably close to Stockholm because we are going by car, but at the same time we want to have a reasonable feeling of ‘getting away’.

#3. Viral pastries versus ‘new classics’ at the Mall of Scandinavia
One of my sisters completely missed the viral “Trompe-l’oeil” pastries that have taken over Sweden lately. (It’s an achievement to avoid them.) I resisted for a long time, but last weekend during a visit to the Mall of Scandinavia I couldn’t resist the teenager’s suggestion to buy one. We weren’t the only ones waiting in line at FROST Gelato & Café, if we may say so. The price of 119 SEK and 129 SEK respectively felt more or less like a joke, but it had to be.

Looking back now, I regret that we took the ‘easy’ way, i.e. going to a place with mass-produced, ugly and overpriced pastries with grumpy and unserviceable staff instead of waiting for a visit to our local chocolate shop here in Nynäshamn. Here they are both cheaper and more beautiful! Well, I’ll have to come over next week – we also have a jealous 11 year old here at home who missed the premiere tasting.
I only took one bite of the dough (which was actually very tasty)…

…before I step off to another place I’ve been dying to visit. Camilla Hamid and I seem to have exactly the same preferences when it comes to pastries and it was a pure pleasure to choose from all her cookies at her cafe in the Mall of Scandinavia.

After much toil and effort, I finally settled on a cinnamon roll cookie, which I hoped would be similar to the American cinnamon cookies my aunt used to make when I was little. And so it was! Gosh, it was so good. And good time, that’s how EXPENSIVE it was! 52 riksdaler indeed falls into the most expensive category. Next time (well, there will be more) I will definitely choose the princess cookie, which looked really good. Mmmmm!
#4. Nynäshamn working day
One of the highlights of the week was Nynäshamn’s business day. I was there as a representative of Nynäshamn Padelcenter…

…and met a lot of friends and acquaintances that I have met since we opened the venue. Throughout the day we had the opportunity to listen to several speakers, with my clear favorites being Anneli Hansson, who spoke about branding, and Charlotta Mellander, who talked about why you choose to live where you live and what attracts people to move. More about my thoughts on these readings in a future post.
#5. An upcoming (travel) Friday in Copenhagen
The week ended with a train and hotel booking to the other side of the strait! When I published a bucket list for traveling in Denmark at the beginning of this year, it was like that “more spontaneous trips to Copenhagen” with being one of the items on the list. I think those lists should be respected…

…which means Lisa and I will soon be spending a day in Denmark’s capital. We have also made sure that we have a very good guide and expert in the form of Klara Halkjaer aka CopenKlara. The plan is also to record a podcast episode with loads of tips about Copenhagen – perfect if we have an expert with us in the company.
And with that said, today it’s time to log out of the computer. I can of course take this opportunity to wish you a nice weekend!
