The Serbian sees the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as motivation rather than a deadline.
Just hearing Djokovic’s speech from yesterday gives you the feeling that he is now creating a legacy that goes beyond just tennis. He has already graduated from tennis, but he now sets an example in lifestyle, health, longevity, global recognition, athleticism, nationalism, competitiveness… pic.twitter.com/3UXXzlZnTS

For Novak, Los Angeles is a meaningful milestone on the horizon. He wants to compete for three more years and compete at his sixth Olympic Games as the defending singles champion.
However, the 24-time Major winner goes further than that. If his body holds up, the Belgrade native doesn’t want to set any limits, as long as he plays competitive tennis and his body tolerates the effort.
At the heart of his decision to continue is an unchanged passion for competition and the daily pleasure of taking the field. Although these elements are on the table, the legend sees no reason to walk away from a sport that still fascinates him.
In addition to personal ambition, Novak believes that his presence continues to add value to tennis itself. Even as speculation about his future mounts, the 38-year-old remains focused on competing and contributing.
At this point, Djokovic simply lets the game decide when his journey will ultimately reach its final chapter. The veteran finished the season in the top-4 for the 17th time.
It motivates him to push even harder in 2026 and challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on the most high-profile scene. After all, Novak still dreams of adding that elusive 25th Major title to his collection.
“I want to keep going. The 2028 Olympics in LA is kind of a guiding star, but honestly there’s no limit. So let’s see. You know what I mean? Let’s just keep going. I love hitting the tennis ball, and I love competing.
I said to the guys I spoke to, the greats in football, that it’s really about passion and love, and as long as you really feel like you’re playing at a high level and your body can hold up, why not?
People like to talk and speculate about their pensions. But at the end of the day, I feel like I’m still contributing to the growth of tennis. That is a beautiful course,” said Novak Djokovic.
