The Indian Cricket team is located in a period of transition, where veterans step aside and take new talent. Leadership decisions, especially for the ODI team, are now under the microscope while rumors around the possible pension of Rohit Sharma are rotating.
Shreyas Iyer has been advertised as a strong candidate for the ODI Captainincy after he has led two different IPL franchises to successive finals. His experience, leadership skills and the ability to inspire makes him a favorite with a fan to succeed Rohit.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, however, rejected reports on any discussions to replace Rohit. “That is news for me. There have not been such discussions,” he told Hindustan Times, for the time being speculation to rest.
Although Iyer has proven himself in cricket with Witte Ball, Shubman Gill may have a lead. Gill, the most important ODI opener of India and the current test captain, is quickly followed as leadership roles in both IPL and international cricket. Officials suggest that he is the natural choice to eventually take over the ODI captain.
“He is an average of 59 in ODI Cricket and is already the vice-captain of the team.
At the age of 24, Gill is almost five years younger than Iyer, giving India the chance to provide a long-term leader. His IPL success and a strong debut series in England further strengthen his business. Although Iyer has experience with experience and pedigree as a captain, the sign seems to be happy to build up for the future with Gill.
