Harvey Elliott is still technically a Reds player until he makes 10 appearances for Aston Villa, but after struggling for game time under Unai Emery, the Midlands club are reportedly having ‘second thoughts’ about meeting the threshold that would trigger a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old is believed to be ‘frustrated’ by his lack of game time since leaving Merseyside after only playing 167 minutes so far during his loan spell, all of which took place on or before October 2, and one of his ex-LFC teammates is experiencing a similar false start away from the Premier League champions.
Tsimikas ‘is not yet completely convinced’ at Roma since Liverpool’s departure
According to TuttomercatowebKostas Tsimikas has ‘not fully convinced’ Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini since joining Serie A on loan from Liverpool at the end of August.
Although the 29-year-old has made eight appearances for the Giallorossi so far, he has started just twice in the Italian top flight (Transfer market), with Wesley or Angelino often preferred as left back.
The report claims that Roma are unlikely to seek a permanent move for the Greece international and that they have started scouting Pisa’s Samuele Angori with a view to a move in the summer of 2026.
What does the future hold for Tsimikas at Liverpool?
Tsimikas was largely second choice behind Andy Robertson at Liverpool for five years and may have felt that his move to Rome would finally give him the chance to play regularly, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.
However, it doesn’t necessarily have to stay that way. With Angelino currently injured, a similar blow to Wesley would force Gasperini to put his faith in the self-proclaimed ‘Greek Scouser’ and give our on-loan defender a longer chance to convince his head coach.
What happens to Tsimikas next summer is another matter. If Andy Robertson signs a contract extension at Anfield, on top of the arrival of Milos Kerkez earlier this year, the 29-year-old would move into third in the left-back pecking order under Arne Slot.
He turns 30 next May and might consider that a good time to move on to the next chapter of his career, but what we can say for sure is that he will be warmly welcomed to Merseyside if he feels he has unfinished business here.
In the meantime, let’s hope he can get more regular minutes under Gasperini at Roma, who are kept off the top of Serie A only on goal difference.
