The minister said the North will focus on actions that endanger its security, signaling greater preparedness as Washington and Seoul tighten cooperation, the report added.

His comments came shortly after the US and South Korea held their annual security advisory meeting and discussed deeper integration of nuclear and conventional defense.

Rocket launch follows new sanctions

Friday’s rocket fire closely followed new U.S. sanctions against several North Korean nationals and two organizations linked to illegal cyber operations.

The launch also came days after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited the demilitarized zone, where he emphasized deterrence as the core of the alliance, Al Jazeera added.

Joint exercises and strategic presence

The US Fifth Carrier Strike Group reached the South Korean port of Busan during major Freedom Flag exercises involving both militaries.

The North destroyed Hegseth’s exercises and widely publicized DMZ photos, calling them evidence of hostility toward the regime.

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said the projectile did not endanger U.S. troops or territory, but warned that Pyongyang’s continued launches threaten regional stability. Japan said the missile landed outside its exclusive economic zone.
