The Rangers names a tactic that they used two nights earlier against another Rookie -Starting pitcher, took the first 18 throws of Nolan McLean Sunday.
It may have surprised the right side, but it did not derail him.
McLean only allowed a walk in that first inning and by the time his outing concluded that he had fired six scoreless, in only his last excellent performance.
“I was not too competitive with the first and second pitches, I fell after it, so I would like to do a little better with that in the future,” said McLean about his first inning, which still included two strikeouts.
The Rangers used a similar approach with Jonah Tong on Friday, and the rookie fell in early disagreement before his removal of the first inning.
McLean may have too much work for him to rattle.
‘It looks like it [the Rangers] Had a good plan there, especially to his sweeping machine, where she asked in the number of fields, “said Carlos Mendoza manager after the 5-2 victory of the Mets in 10 innings.” They were aggressive on that field and [McLean] Recognized that a bit and he started using that zinc shed. He started to use that change … That is what makes this guy who he is. ”
McLean received double plays that were run behind him in the fourth and sixth innings. In general, he allowed five hits and threw seven out, with two free runs.
During a losing streak that had reached eight games for Sunday, the Mets had an ERA of 6.27. But McLean was not part of the problem, so last Monday was only one run in a start against the Phillies. McLean still has not allowed more than two earned runs.

“He is impressed every day when he is on the hill,” said Francisco Alvarez. “He is a man who can move the ball. He can control all his fields, so that makes him so good.”
The 1.19 ERA from McLean is the lowest for a Mets -World in his first six Major League Start. The previous record was the 1.73 ERA from Terry Leach. McLean is also the first pitcher in the franchise history that does not allow earned run in his first three starts at home.
“I am not a huge statistics man,” said McLean. “I try to go outside and give my team the best chance to win every time.”
