Gillespie, who was Pakistan’s head coach from April to December 2024, recently said he is not willing to coach the Indian contingent in the red-ball circuit. The former Australian pacer made this clear during an interaction with his fans on social media.
One of the users posted on Gillespie: “Jason you need to coach India now because they are not just losing but getting whitewashed twice at home. They seriously need you.”
To this, Gillespie replied, “No, thanks.”

India were whitewashed at home in a three-match Test series against South Africa in 2024. Last year they were defeated 2-0 by New Zealand in another home Test series. Shubman Gill and Co. are currently ranked fourth in the ICC Test team rankings.
On the other hand, the Asian giants are stranded at number 6 in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings for the 2025-2027 cycle. They have four wins, four defeats and one draw in their kitty after playing nine Tests. Their win percentage is a disappointing 48.15.
The Indian team will play three ODIs and five T20Is against New Zealand later this month. They will next take part in the T20 World Cup, which starts on February 7. India are expected to return to the longest format in August 2026 as they will play two Tests in Sri Lanka.
