‘No perseverance against international quality’ – Priyank Panchal makes statement after Ayush Badoni’s ODI call | CricTracker

Former Indian domestic stalwart Priyank Panchal has strong words for it Ayush Badoni after the Delhi batsman received his maiden call-up to the senior team. Badoni was recently announced as Washington Sundar’s replacement for the second and third ODIs against New Zealand.

Panchal, who retired from all forms of cricket in May 2025, pointed out the potential that Badoni possesses. However, he also flagged a certain level of discomfort that Badoni has had to deal with during his four seasons in the IPL so far.

Talking about Badoni’s IPL career so far, he has represented Lucknow Super Giants since their inception in the big T20 league. Badoni has been constantly backed by the franchise and has played 56 IPL matches so far, registering 963 runs at an impressive strike rate of 138.56 with six half-centuries.

Sundar was ruled out of the 50-over leg of the series after suffering an acute discomfort in his left lower rib region while bowling during the first ODI in Vadodara. It was also the same reason why Sundar did not get to his usual position to bat during the chase. The all-rounder was eventually sent to bat under Harshit Rana and stayed on to bat till the end India At home. However, Sundar appeared to be in apparent pain as he ran between the wickets.

Badoni will join the national camp after representing Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 and the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. He was handy with the ball during both tournaments. It will be interesting to see if Badoni’s off-spin will be put to the test, if he is even given the chance to be part of the XI.
