A award -winning pharmaceutical director was charged on Wednesday for driving more than 100 km / h in a horrible wrong crash that killed a former Olympic swimmer on a highway in New Jersey.
Brian Baldari, 47, drove his Cadillac CT5 Blackwing in the wrong direction through Route 70 in Lakewood for two miles before he crashed in the 66-year vehicle of Edwin Borja in March, the Public Prosecution Service of Ocean County announced.
Baldari collided head -on with Borja’s Mazda CX5 and then hit six extra vehicles before he stopped at 5:50 am
The Lakewood Township police responded to the fatal crash and found the Cadillac in flames with Baldari who was trapped in it.
First Responders pulled Baldari out of the car, but he was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC). He was later moved to Weill Cornell Medicine Burn Center in New York City, said public prosecutors.
Prosecutors claim that Baldari has reached 103 km / h in his sports car.
Borja, a former Filipino Olympian who participated in the Olympic Games in 1972 and 1976, was also flown to JSUMC.
Borja died of his injuries 11 days later.
A third driver was also injured in the crash and brought to Ocean University Medical Center, where they were treated and later released.
After a month of research, Baldari was charged on Wednesday with serious manslaughter, murder of vehicles and mistreatment by the car.
He is confronted with a maximum of 50 years in prison if he is found guilty.
Baldari surrendered to the police of Lakewood Township and was transported to Ocean County prison, said Ocean County Officer of Justice Bradley D. Billhimer.
Billhimer said that he will remain behind bars “awaiting a detention hearing.”
Baldari describes herself as a “award-winning” and “seasoned biopharmaceutical director with a strong report of launching 14 blockbuster brands, indications and line extensions”, ald LinkedIn.
As a graduated from Rutgers University, it is currently working in a hybrid function as a vice-president, franchise-portfolio management cardiometabolics, ophthalmology, respiratory capacity, at Azurity Pharmaceuticals in North Carolina.
As recently as two weeks ago, Baldari posted a vacancy for Azure Pharmaceuticals on his LinkedIn.
Borja emigrated to the US from the Philippines with his family in 1971.
A year later, at the age of 14, he participated in the Filipino team at the Munich Olympic Games and finished 41st in the 1500 meter Freestyle and 14th in the 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay.
He returned for the 1976 Olympic Games and placed 44th in the 400m Freestyle, 28th in the 1500 m Freestyle, 32nd in the 200m butterfly, and 30th in the 400m individual medley.
Borja graduated from the La Salle University in Pennsylvania and worked as a controller at Dana Companies, which transports dangerous raw materials, according to an online death message.
He is remembered as a beloved member of the Saint Andrew Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, and like an avid bowler.
His wife, Marieta Espe Borja, died in 2019. He will be survived by his two children and four grandchildren.
