-A Nissan Leaf Quick Charge-Topping promotion includes more 20,400 fully electric cars equipped with level 3 fast-loading ports, and owners are warned not to use fast charging until the Leafs have been repaired.
Called 2021-2022 Nissan Leaf vehicles equipped with lithium ion batteries that can overheat during fast charging of level 3.
Nissan told federal security controllers that it believes that 1% of the Leafs is defective.
This is an extension of a recall from 2024 from Nissan Leaf Electric Cars 2019-2020 equipped with level 3 Quick Charge ports (via CHAMEMO connectors) due to a risk of battery fires.
This newest recall for remembering leaf batteries also includes level 3 quickly via CHADEMO connectors.
The cause of the recall?
“Nissan has determined that the lithium ion battery in affected vehicles can experience excessive lithium deposits in battery cells, which increases the electrical resistance and possibly causes a fluctuation in the load state. Although the vehicle is quickly charging, the raised electrical resistance can lead to fast heating of the battery.”
Nissan says there will be no warning before the problem occurs.
The recalled Nissan Leafs were built between November 3, 2020 and 23 May 2022 in the Nissan Smyrna factory.
A recall in Canada in Nissan Leaf comprises 1,355 electric vehicles.
The first Nissan Leaf Quick Charge Recall Letters will be emailed on October 24, 2025 and second recall knowledge are sent when dealers are ready to repair the electric vehicles.
Nissan dealers will update the leaf battery software.
