You already know I won’t wait in line for a Shamrock Shake when I can make one that tastes even better at home. This Ninja Slushi Shamrock Shake is thick, creamy, perfectly minty and that nostalgic green we all grew up loving. I’ve been making frozen treats long before fancy machines existed, so believe me when I say this method gives you that real milkshake texture, not watered down ice cream milk.

Main ingredients

  • Milk: Any milk will work, but whole milk gives the creamiest texture.
  • Green food coloring: This is if you want the classic color. If you don’t want to use artificial colors, use these natural food dyes.
  • Mint extract: This is different from peppermint extract. Peppermint extract is made exclusively from peppermint leaves, so it has that bold, icy, candy cane flavor you expect in holiday desserts. Mint extract is a mixture of different mint varieties, usually spearmint and peppermint. It is milder, sweeter and more spicy in taste. The taste leans closer to bubble gum or fresh garden mint rather than that strong cooling punch.
  • Sweetener or Sugar: This machine likes standard table sugar, allulose and monk fruit from my personal testing and experiences. I use monk fruit sweetener because it has no calories.

How to Make Ninja Slushi Shamrock Milkshakes?

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. In a large cup or pitcher, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, pure mint extract, and green food coloring. Beat until completely combined.
  2. Pour the mixture into your Ninja Slushi. Press milkshake for the Ninja Slushi.
  3. Let the machine process. Let the machine run for 15-45 minutes, depending on the sugar content and temperature of the liquid. For me it took 20 minutes.
  4. Once the cycle is complete, place a cup under the self-serve spout and pull the lever to pour the milkshake.

Troubleshooting tips if you have problems with the device

  • Check the fluid ratio – If the mixture is too thick, the machine may have difficulty processing it. Try adding 1-2 tablespoons of extra liquid (water or milk) and restarting the cycle.
  • Make sure the mixture is cold enough – The machine works best when the liquid is super cold. If your base was not chilled before adding it to the machine, try refrigerating or briefly freezing it before processing.
  • Let it process completely – It may take a few minutes for the Ninja Slushi Machine to reach the correct consistency. Be patient and let it complete the cycle. Restart the process if necessary.
  • Check for ice blockage – If the mixture freezes unevenly, it may be too cold or concentrated in one area. Let it sit for a minute, stir it gently and try again.
  • Make sure the machine is mounted correctly – Double check that all parts (including the lid and paddle) are locked in place. If anything is out of alignment, the machine may not work properly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which setting should I use?

Use the milkshake setting.

What type of milk to use

Any type of milk or non-dairy milk can be used in the recipe. Whole milk is best to make it rich and creamy, ideal for a classic diner-style shake.

Can I make this without a Ninja Slushi Maker?

Yes! A high-powered blender or ice cream maker also works, just blend until thick and creamy. You will have to use a lot of ice and taste the drink to decide if you need to add more ingredients for flavor.

Can I make this dairy free?

Yes! Use almond, oat, coconut or cashew milk.

How can I make this thicker?

Adjust the dial on the right side of the machine. The higher you select, the thicker the milkshake.

Can I make this in advance?

Yes! Store it in the freezer and let it sit for a few minutes before stirring or mixing it to get the right consistency.
