Chicago Bulls Center Nikola Vucevic knows that rumors are part of life in the NBA. However, Vucevic does not spend much time making them, not even when trade and buy-out rumors were swirling around him this season.
“The GM of the Bulls (Marc Eersley), who had contacted me after all the rumors, confirmed that there was nothing true and that everything we had said was still relevant after the season,” Vucevic said. “I knew, but it’s always nice if you contact you to tell you to tell you.”
When asked if he expects to start the season with Chicago, Vucevic said, “Yes, I have almost no doubt about it,” but acknowledged that he does not know where the season will bring him. Regarding speculation about a potential buy -out, Vucevic said he is not getting caught in rumors.
“There are always rumors. Most of them are incorrect. It is a bit of nonsense. For example, the buy-out was misinterpreted in Europe: the journalist wrote that if there was no ‘trade’ during the season, there could be a ‘buy-out’ option for the ‘Deadline’,” Vucevic said. “I know how the company works: in the last year of a contract there is always speculation. Because I can’t control anything, I don’t try to worry about it.”
Vucevic said he does not determine a timetable about how long he wants to play. The Veteran Center said that his goal is to win an NBA title, while he says he doesn’t know what the future will keep this season.
“I have not determined any age limit. As long as I am physically good, motivated and play a role on the field that suits me, I hope to keep playing. I feel physically and mentally very well. I come from a very good season,” said Vucevic. “I am going into my contract with Chicago in the last year. Then we will see what opportunities and roles are offered. I know sooner or later my role will evolve, and I am ready to accept that. I think I have a few good years for me.”
