Nike Terra Kiger 10 Review | The lack of versatility, but no speed

A lightweight trail racing shoe with a vibram outside sole is what the Nike Terra Kiger 10 is designed if, it is branded at the top of the side wall – Nike Trail Racing. What the bat immediately feels is a specific usage shoe.

Nike has made a few changes of the Kiger 9 in the Terra Kiger 10. The outsole has been upgraded from a griping rubber to the Vibram MegaGrap together with the switch to the Cushlon 3.0 foam for this model.

I was interested in trying a unisex shoe, were they made differently, would I notice a drastically different fit for a women’s -specific shoe? Spoiler, I have not noticed any of these, that is not bad.

It is also worth mentioning that this is a unisex shoe that you will not find in the Women’s Trail section on the Nike website that we find very strange, so maybe it’s just a current mistake.

This shoe is great for faster, shorter runs, slower runs can be tiring with this damping.

Nike Terra Kiger 10 overview

This shoe looks good from the box, I would wear this out, not just on the path. It’s just one of those shoes that looks good. It is also noticeable how light the kiger 10 is, but also feels durable.

De Kiger 10 has had various changes from the Kiger 9. The Kiger 10 changed from Nike’s React Foam in the Cushlon 3.0 foam, both of which fall into the Nike standard foam category. The stack height has fallen by 2 mm. The outsole has been upgraded to the Vibram Megagrip with a slightly different wheel pattern.

I hit my usual paths and walking routine to see where this shoe really seemed.

Make my favorite run with the Kiger 10 – a shorter speed session on a soft rolling single track. The vibram sole can handle the wet, the roots and some rocks, but there is a place in the middle of the sole that is only midsole foam that you can feel a rock if you walk wrong.

On a steeper descent I felt that the damping should have absorbed a little more shock than on hard packaged dirt.

The slow, easy run of each distance seemed a waste of Kiger 10 and not for what it was designed. Back -TO -Back runs did not give the damping enough time to jump back and the long, slow distance left my legs tired at the end.

My most important criticism of the Nike Terra Kiger 10 is that it is a specific trail shoe. It is not as versatile as many trail shoes that I have tested. Although it can handle different trail conditions, it is not my go to -pick for every type of run day.

Nike Terra Kiger 10 Fit

The Nike Terra Kiger 10 is a unisex shoe, so keep that in mind.

I tested my normal size, a gentlemen 7.5/ladies 9, and this gave me a little more than the thumb width of extra space at the end (for the reference of a Saucony or Brooks Women’s Size 9 gives me a meticulous thumb width of extra space). I am not sure if this is due to the unisex format or whether this shoe is just a little bigger.

The Kiger 10 is one narrower FIT that can be stuck even more before the narrowest foot, a wider foot will find it too cozy. The novelty is especially noticeable in the middle of the foot with the connection of the tongue. I discovered that my heel felt really safe, which was perhaps due to the only filling on the top being in the heel and ankle.

The bow feels a bit higher than other shoes and gives a nice supporting feeling.

The TOEBOX is not wide or narrow, but the Leno Weave Upper has enough to feel not restrictive. The tongue is attached for about two -thirds of its length, so that it stays safe during the run.

Nike Terra Kiger 10 Feel

The Nike Terra Kiger 10 feels light. But that also means that it feels like there is not much.

The Leno Weave Technology is a mesh above work and really that is about everything in the top, there is no filling on the top of the foot or tongue, but the ankle is filled all the way down. The Leno Weave feels really sustainable with a beautiful cozy on the midfoot. There is an openness for the tissue that makes it super breathable, not watertight but dries quickly.

Nike changed to the Vibram Megagrip outside sole for this model, but it is not the entire outsole that feels like an incomplete upgrade. There is a rock screen in the forefoot, which is great, but in combination with the incomplete vibram coverage at the back of the foot, this means that a number of important places that are exposed to feeling the rocks on a technical path if you make it right.

The Cushlon 3.0 foam in the middle sole was firmer than I expected and for this price, less responsive than I felt like it should have been compared to other comparable trail shoes. For me, the damping made this a very specific type of run shoe.

The Kiger 10 was a shoe where I was happy to run inside for my weekly, short speed sessions. Recommended to a 50k, these are perhaps better suited for even shorter trail distances. I tried Back -To -Back days, sometimes you just have to run on the consecutive days, but the foam was not reflected enough on that second day for a comfortable run. The Cushlon 3.0 -midsole felt like it needed a few days to recover.
