“If you’re preparing for four to six weeks (of a competition), chances are you’re not happy, I don’t care what anyone says,” says Walker, who appreciates that a low mood associated with fewer calories and lowered blood sugar is a recipe for becoming seriously bad company. What he makes an exception to, however, are the bodybuilders who choose to guide friends and family through their negative appearance in the long term. “But if you’re in everyday life, (and) you’re acting a little ad**che because you want to stay slim all the time, you know, then you should probably check yourself,” he implored. “Or if you’re one of those people who say, ‘I have to stay thin because of the views,’ then you stay thin for people who don’t care about you, that’s the reality,” he continued.
Why Nick Walker says it’s a mistake to stay slim all year round
“The people around you that you surround yourself with don’t want to be around you because you’re an asshole,” Walker said of the effect this obsession has on a bodybuilder’s personal life. “Pick and choose, when you’re an A-hole, you know? I believe you’re out for four to six weeks, if you’re a little ad**k, okay. You know, we get it, no problem, we understand the lifestyle, but when you’re like that, when you’re not even competing, you need a reality check, like a big one. That’s what I’m saying. Take a good look in the mirror and figure out what’s important, and what’s not, you know? So, just my thought process.”
For his part, Walker remains bullish on the prospect of the 2026 Arnold in another Instagram postsaid his confidence has returned. “If there’s anyone out there who’s feeling in any way, feeling like they can’t find the groove or the confidence in themselves, I want to tell you one thing: don’t stop trusting yourself,” The Mutant said. “No one knows yourself better than you, no one knows what is best for you better than you. Believe in yourself and trust your feelings. And everything will fall right back into place as it should over time.”
