The comments of Aryna Sabalenka about practicing men instead of women caused a commotion during Wimbledon, in which former champion Maria Sharapova refers to a number of reports
Nick Kyrgios says he is trying to organize a match against Aryna Sabalenka later this year after a sexism row broke out in Wimbledon. World No. 1 Sabalenka was involved in a debate at the tournament after Maria Sharapova had put an article about her practice with men.
Sabalenka will be confronted on Tuesday with Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon on Tuesday after a few impressive versions in the early rounds. She is the clear favorite for the title after a succession of seeds was eliminated, but the comments from Sharapova have brought her methods into the attention.
At the beginning of the month, De Wit -Russia gave quotes to the Wall Street Journal in an article: “The world no. 1 that hits so hard that she practices against men.” The story said that she “needed practice partners who could live with her sizzling foundations”.
Sabalanka said to the Wsj: “Save the boys, it’s a different level of intensity. When you see that side, someone like Jannik [Sinner] or Novak [Djokovic]You learn from them. You reflect what they do on the field. You play with them … and you see the difference. It really helped my tennis. “

Sharapova, the Wimbledon champion 2004, responded on Instagram by writing: “What is this headline and what is this article. You can do better”.
Kyrgios clearly has no problem with Sabalenka that improves her play by learning from the best male players. The Australian, who does not play in Wimbledon due to injury, wants to face the Women’s World No.1 in a competition itself.
“Sabalenka and I am thinking about doing a battle for the sexes later in the year, where the court will be a little smaller for me. One serves,” he said Talksport.
“We are thinking about doing it later in the year in Hong Kong. This will be something that I am really nervous about, to be honest, because she is now in her absolute prime and she gets the wooden legs from me.”
The proposed competition is said to have been conceived in the format by Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS), in which there are four quarters of eight minutes each, with only one serve allowed per point.
“UTS is how contemporary tennis should be,” added Kyrgios, a Wimbledon finalist in 2022. “It is something we are both to do. We are very close. The drop -shot is my friend. And I still think I have enough variation and talent in the tank to take on Sabalenka. But she is fierce and yes (laughs), I now feel nervous.”
Sabalenka is far from the only top player who practices with men and the criticism of the WSJ article seems to be focused on the tone, instead of the subject. One fragment is: “The 27-year-old Sabalenka now crushes the ball so powerfully that she needs new practice partners.
“And it turns out that the right players for the job happen to be people she never encountered in Singles competition. That’s because they are men”.
