McKenzie: “Do you think Owen Tippett could become available in a trade?”
Johnston: “It’s a question. You know, I don’t think Philadelphia has completely landed in their direction yet. And you know, look, they’re not in a place where they feel like they have to trade anybody. I do know that, that, you know that’s what they want to be, that they want to grow the roster.”
But you know, it’s been a tumultuous few weeks leading up to the break. I actually think, looking at the teams, there might not be many NHL teams that could benefit from the pause more than Philadelphia. Probably just with some smoke around them. You know, other teams, I could say the same thing, that have a pile of injuries, it’s just a chance to rest their mind and body and all that.

But you know, I don’t know which way Philadelphia is going yet, and I don’t think they know which way they’re going at this deadline. This doesn’t suggest they will be a big buyer, but to what extent are they selling? What are they considering?
You know, I would be surprised if we’re talking about Tippet being moved before the deadline, but I can’t completely rule it out either because, you know, I do think that they, you know, obviously, part of the response to everything that’s happened is that expectations are higher. And they must find a way to take steps forward as an organization. And sometimes to do that you have to consider removing players who have also been quite productive for you.”
