If the New York Rangers trade Artemi Panarin, will the return be disappointing?
Daily confrontation: Who has the power when it comes to the New York Rangers-Artemi Panarin trade? Will Panarin’s return be disappointing?
Jonny Lazarus: “I just feel like the return is disappointing either way. What Artemi Panarin has given the Rangers over the last seven seasons, the Rangers are not getting in this trade.”
Mike Rupp: “Anyway, but I would say the same thing. It’s the same thing here, and maybe there’s a little bit more leverage, because Quinn Hughes had another year, but Quinn, that situation put Vancouver in a really bad spot. Where you would think Vancouver had no leverage, they did pretty well in their return.”
Arthur Staple: “The advantage is certainly that whoever gets him gets the best guy available. So I think if you’re Dallas or Colorado, just to name two, and you say, ‘Artemi Panarin for $5.8 (million) for the rest of the season, that’s the guy we think will put us over the top to win a Stanley Cup.’ He will give up what you have to give up.
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars
You know, Colorado, I think with Brock Nelson, if you look at that deal last year, there were some situations, but Brock Nelson turned down a deal to Winnipeg. He didn’t want to go there, even for the short term. So he accepted a deal with Colorado.
Lou Lamoriello drew a line in the sand and said, “We won’t do this deal unless we get a scoop and a prospect we like.” They got what they wanted, and it wasn’t really a huge bidding war for that situation either.
We’ve seen GMs get out of these situations with finesse because you send the guy people want.”
