“I think, you know, I know everyone’s really excited about Panarin. I wonder if it might be something like Braden Schneider, to be honest.
You know, I think the Rangers just had their scouting meeting, and the feeling around the league that comes from that is that Chris Drury has reiterated, if you have an idea, call me.
And some of his players have protection, and they have control over whether they go or not, but there are other players who don’t, and he’s willing to listen to all of them. I like that you put Carrick on there because I think that’s the kind of player that could generate some interest as well.
But one of the guys I’m worried about is Schneider, whose contract expires after this year. And I definitely think there’s a lot riding on (Vincent) Trocheck as well. And the question will just be, ‘Where can he go without permission, and how high can the Rangers get this far?’
But one name that I did hear a little bit about today, knowing that I was coming here and calling around, other than the obvious, was Schneider. I think there is always interest in such a player for a heavier defender. And I think there’s something in him and the Rangers might have to make a decision there.
