NHL Rumors: Tyler Myers days in Vancouver are numbered

NHL Rumors: Tyler Myers days in Vancouver are numbered

The Vancouver Canucks held off Tyler Myers as they worked on a trade

Rick Dhaliwal: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was held out of the game last night due to trade-related reasons.

  • Darren Dreger: “Rick is right. The Canucks have a trade option that they have asked Myers to consider. He is under protection and is taking time to consider it. I was told it was presented two days ago. The veteran and his agent, JP Barry, continue to deliberate.”
  • Chris Johnston: “Of significance in this situation is the fact that Tyler Myers currently has a full NMC, which will convert to a 12-team no-trade list this summer, so there remains an element of pressure lingering in the background as Myers weighs his options.”

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks and the Winnipeg Jets

Thomas Dance of The Athletic: Tylers Myers was scratched last night for “roster management” reasons while the Vancouver Canucks worked on a trade. He did, however, lead the team onto the ice in full uniform, as he normally does. It was done partly as a precaution, they only had six defenders, and if anyone got injured in warm-up, he was ready.

Coach Adam Foote: “You always have to use your seventh defenseman in case there is a groin pull or a puck in the face.”

Myers would prefer not to be traded because he has deep roots in Vancouver. He is prohibited from moving. This summer it will switch to a 12-team no-trade list, so he will have more control when choosing his next team now.

The Canucks approached Myers with a trade scenario earlier this week. The Canucks have something they like if Myers agrees to the trade.

NHL Rumors: Will the Vancouver Canucks have a busy trade deadline?

Canucks Brock Boeser:

“This time of year is the worst. When you think about our team and you think, ‘Which guys could you get a good price for?’ you immediately think of the big, experienced, right-handed defensemen, right? His hit is cheap. You look at it, and it’s obviously (a move) that makes sense.”

“For me, I looked at it and thought, ‘Of course teams are going to target this guy left and right.’ It’s a worthless part of the business; he’s such a good leader in this room, and he’s the oldest man here. If we lose him, we will become very young. That will be a big adjustment.”
