BU women’s hockey falls 3-1 to Northeastern

BU women’s hockey followed up its first win of the season with a 3-1 loss to the Northeastern Huskies.

Here are the takeaways from Friday’s game, and how it happened.

Michelle remains flushed

Heading into this weekend’s game, a BU goaltender had yet to see consecutive starts between the pipes in back-to-back games.

That changed this weekend. The Terriers gave Pasiechnyk the runway after giving BU its first win over UNH and they did not disappoint on Friday. She consistently made strings of big saves on Northeastern’s chances. Between her last two goals allowed, she stopped 38 consecutive shots.

Pasiechnyk finished with 37 saves that night and a save percentage of .949.

A game of momentum

BU came into this game prepared for what awaited the Huskies. The former was highlighted by their composure in quick passing, great breakouts and keeping NU out.

However, after a breakaway goal in the second, the dial changed. Northeastern took full advantage of the equalizer by keeping BU in their own half and not allowing any chances near Lisa Jonsson.

After a season-high 40 shots against UNH, the Terriers followed with 23 tonight.

How it happened

Clara Yuhn opened the scoring for the Terriers by hitting an air puck into Northeastern’s goal with some great hand-eye coordination. Thanks to the efforts of Lucy Thiessen behind the goal line – a stick foul with a Husky defenseman to advance the puck.

BU held on for the first half of the game before a mishandled puck cost them. Northeastern’s Eloise Caron pounced on Clara Yuhn, who established possession on a drop pass from Anezka Cabelova in the neutral zone. Caron freed the puck and fired it past Michelle Pasiechnyk’s blocker side.

Northeastern blocked 19 of BU’s 53 shot attempts. The Terriers’ highest number of shots on goal was 11 in the third period.

BU went 0 for 4 on their power play attempts.

With 28.4 seconds left, Northeastern’s Allie Lalonde scored on the power play, converting a slap pass into Eloise Caron’s slot.

Tristan Thompson found the back of the empty net with 11 seconds left in regulation.
