NHL Rumors: Trade interest in Rasmus Andersson should increase in January

At the moment it is more a matter of kicking tires against Rasmus Andersson

Honestly hockey: Frank Seravalli, on Rasmus Andersson’s tire kick, and how teams might want to acquire him before the pre-Olympic roster freezes. There is a lot of hockey in January.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Seravalli: “It’s been a lot of hassle. And not to say the interest isn’t genuine, but they’re just not ready to get to that point yet. The interest hasn’t been serious enough yet. A lot of, ‘we’ve seen Quinn Hughes being traded. Are you thinking about moving Rasmus Andersson, for example?’

So that the number of calls was there, but not in terms of sincerity to do business at this time. It was more that we were interested. Keep us in mind, don’t do anything without calling us. And so that was the tone and gist of the calls.

Brien Rea: Rasmus Andersson is, I mean, the Tickle Me Elmo, it feels like that since last year. The number one item on everyone’s Christmas list to try and get on their blue line. And the longer that conversation continues, just like Seattle being willing to go over the top against the other teams to try to acquire him, plus the expansion situation.

NHL Rumors: How big will the questions get for the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Seravalli: “And the reason why the interest, I think, hasn’t been more genuine this week and trying to freeze a holiday roster for a guy like Anderson is because we’re looking at the East. We just talked about how there’s a tangle of teams that are outside of the true top-five in the West. In the East, everyone is over .500 in the East. And so teams are trying to figure out who we are authentically about this, or are we just and also walked.”

And they’re not willing to trade assets that early in advance without knowing the answer to that question, or at least having a better chance of formulating it. So that part stood out.

I mean, Rasmus Anderson has very limited control when it comes to that no-trade. It’s a six-team no-trade, so he won’t have much say.

But I mean, count on all the traditional no-tax states having a chance to win. Those are approximately the desired destinations. And not a surprise to anyone, those are the teams that are generally in the mix. So I think for a lot of these teams, who may have a big appetite, it’s a whole different story to actually be able to get the trade done.

Brien Rea: “Yeah, and one last thought for me on this: the way, Bill Guerin basically went sniper in the weeds on Quinn Hughes called Vancouver and said, boom, there’s my package, and just pulled his biggest clubs out of the bag. It could be until after January, you know, before, right before the Olympic break, or just after the trade deadline, a team just has to call Calgary and say, ‘Okay, there’s our best and a final offer. Take it or leave it. it.’ And try to go over the top before they say, let’s do this, and they send Rasmus Andersson away.

Seravalli: “The point, however, is that it will most likely happen between the turning of the calendar to 2026 and the freeze of the pre-Olympic selection. Because yes, there is a third deadline this year, and that is the freeze of the Olympic selection.

If Anderson goes to the Olympics, you want to get that deal done before he goes there and subjects himself to more. And we are now entering the breath-holding season for everyone. Because they are trading chips that no one wants to get hurt, and also all these guys who are about to be included in the Olympic roster in twelve days.

NHL Rumors: The Calgary Flames will be a team to watch in the new year

They have a lot of hockey. Five weeks of hockey to get through it. I can guarantee you that there will be significant changes for almost every team from the time they are named on, on or submitted on December 31st to the time they actually arrive in Milan. No doubt players will be added and removed as some teams have 17 games to play in January, Brien. That’s crazy.
