Teams continue to show interest in Kiefer Sherwood
The Fourth Period: The Vancouver Canucks continue to talk to teams about incoming UFA forward Kiefer Sherwood.
Elliotte Friedman reported this weekend that the Canucks recently made Sherwood an offer, the sides spoke last week and the gap still exists. A source said a pitch had been made as part of the talks but was not considered a formal offer.
Some of the interested teams include the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings. David Pagnotta reported that the Tampa Bay Lightning had some interest but are no longer in the mix.

It is unknown what figures the Canucks and Sherwood have discussed, but it is believed he is looking for a four- or five-year contract worth at least $5 million per season.

Even if the sides hold more talks, it is more likely he will be traded before the March 6 trade deadline. A contender will likely make a big bid by the deadline.
Some think they can keep a player like Sherwood because he is physical and can score. However, he is 30 and they already have some more expensive wingers in this age group: Conor Garland, Brock Boeser and Jake DeBrusk. What if they move one or two of those wingers? Logic suggests that Sherwood remains the player they need to move.

Sherwood’s $1.5 million cap hit has a lot of value. Even if he signed a team-friendly extension, his trade value would likely be lower than it is now.
