NHL Rumors: The latest on Quinn Hughes and who are potential suitors?

NHL Rumors: The latest on Quinn Hughes and who are potential suitors?

The latest on all the Quinn Hughes speculation

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman: So, after a bad start to the season and after telling everyone you’re willing to listen to veteran calls, it’s no surprise that teams are asking the Vancouver Canucks about Quinn Hughes. Add in Jim Rutherford, who loves to make moves early, and it’s the perfect storm.

Multiple sources have denied speculation that Hughes told the Canucks last offseason that he was not interested in signing an extension in July. Don’t think they expected all this speculation this early in the season.

One director said the asking price for Hughes is “outrageous.” The demand must be very high for the Canucks to get this right.

Acquiring a young, impactful center is ideal, but may not be critical if assets are built elsewhere. They can wait until the draft if they don’t like the offers they get, but there is a lot of extra noise surrounding the team.

Linked teams include the New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes. Don’t think Caps would move their best young guys. I don’t see a trade deal with the Rangers. The Flyers don’t have a center. Sources have dismissed the Penguins’ idea.

NHL Rumors: New York Rangers and the Top 15 NHL Trade Targets

The Utah Mammoth have the assets, but Western teams are essentially ignored. There is speculation that he would prefer the East, but he has no trade protection and has one year left on his contract.

Some teams think the Capitals could sign him for a two-year deal to work with Alex Ovechkin in the Cup.

The Canucks could hold on to Hughes and promise a massive eight-year offer on July 1. On September 15, players can sign for a maximum of seven years and there will be more bonus restrictions.

Quinn Hughes’ list of potential suitors is growing

The Fourth Period: Add the New York Rangers to the list of teams that have shown interest in Quinn Hughes, according to David Pagnotta, joining the Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers.

It is unknown if the Vancouver Canucks would seriously consider trading Hughes. Some don’t think it’s a seasonal deal.

Pagnotta also mentioned on DFO Rundown that the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals have shown some interest, adding.

NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks

“I keep being told that Quinn Hughes and his agent ultimately hold all the cards. Depending on who you talk to, some think that’s the case, while others say it’s the Canucks because they have complete control.”

Elliotte Friedman wondered Monday if the Pittsburgh Penguins would be another team that might be interested.
