Ron McLean “Okay, the transactions. Attention centers.”
Friedman: “Yeah, a lot of what’s being discussed now, in terms of what’s popular today, is the centers. And you know, first of all, Robert Thomas rejoined the Blues today. He could be playing for them again tomorrow. And the best thing for his family was that he was on leave for a while this week.”
But you know, Ron, when his name first came up, you reported it, but you didn’t actually believe it. For example, there is no way Robert Thomas could be traded. I actually believe it could happen. I think there’s a good chance Robert Thomas could be traded before the deadline on Friday.
NHL Rumors: Teams are very interested in MacKenzie Weegar. Would he give up?
I believe one of the teams in this is Utah. Utah general manager Bill Armstrong drafted Robert Thomas in St. Louis, and that’s a connection there. But I think it could indeed happen. And I have to say I’m a little surprised about that. I think it’s kind of tailored around him now.
Also Vincent Trocheck, he’s another center that a lot of people are watching. I said a few weeks ago that Trocheck would rather stay East. I think there have been a few Far West teams that have caught him and been told that won’t happen.
So you know, I still think everyone talks about Minnesota. They’re not that far west, so maybe. But his preference is East, and I think a few far West teams have been told he’s not going there.
And what that means is we go to Ryan O’Reilly. And I’m told Ryan O’Reilly has no desire to leave the Nashville Predators in the middle of a playoff race. They’re here, and they’re winning tonight in Dallas. But it’s kind of like dating Ron: the more someone says no, the more attractive he or she becomes. And I think teams will continue to try to see if there’s a way they can entice Nashville to do that. Although he has, he has been told that he will have control over where he can go.
And actually that brings me to Nazem Kadri, and I think the Flames have been waiting and waiting for a good offer. And I think because there are all these centers here, and we should mention that Thomas has control over this. He says yes or no.
But I just think Thomas is kind of in the game now. Trocheck, people think it’s going to be treated. O’Reilly, they’re not sure. And that brings us to Kadri. And I just think the center market is really heating up, especially because they’re surprised that Thomas can actually be treated.
NHL Rumors: Who is interested in Vincent Trocheck?
Ron McLean: “32 thoughts: In the podcast you said LA would think about a Trocheck because (Artemi) Panarin didn’t sign just to start a rebuild.”
Friedman: “I don’t think it will be LA.”
McLean: “Okay. What about Seattle?”
Friedman: “I don’t know. I’ll be honest. I think they’re trying, but I don’t know.”
