The Calgary Flames will be a team to watch in the new year

The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnson on the Calgary Flames being a team to watch in the new year as they have some decisions to make about the direction they want to go.

“But I do think early in the new year the Flames will probably be in some of those conversations with or where they’re going with their players, whether it’s Andersson having a pending UFA.

Obviously, Blake Coleman has another year left after this season, and he’s pretty high on the board because, you know, I know there’s a fair amount of interest.

And you know, we will open Nazem Kadri’s door. He’s a little lower on the current list, you know, mainly because of what the Flames have said publicly. You know, Don Maloney said they’d rather have more Nazem Kadris than, you know, lose one.

But you know, I wonder how long Nazem himself will be on board with the team you know, probably not presenting himself to win a cup during the life of his deal as he gets deeper and further into his career.

So, you know, I definitely think the Flames, if we’re going to pull themes off this board, it’s not just the players in the order they’re listed. It’s kind of what the teams are trying to achieve. And so I think Calgary is going to be an interesting team.
