Nazem Kadri could eventually join Rasmus Andersson on the trade council

The Fourth Period: Trade speculation will follow Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson all season as he is expected to move at some point. Speculation surrounding center Nazem Kadri has increased following the Calgary Flames’ slow start.

The 35-year-old Kadri has three years left on his contract after this season with a $7 million cap hit. He has a no-movement clause that will result in a no-trade list of thirteen teams next season. Nothing is threatening.

The Flames are not interested in rebuilding, but would like to restructure.

Pending UFA, Andersson may be looking at the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights. The Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings had been interested in the past, but he was unwilling to continue there.

Moving Kadri seems a bit premature now, but if the Flames are well out of the race heading into the deadline, they could take calls and ask Kadri if he’s interested.

Teams call the New York Rangers about Brennan Othmann

Bleacher Report: Frank Seravalli on the New York Rangers and Brennan Othmann trade rumors.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

“But just to pass along some thoughts on the Rangers and this Othmann situation. They’ve received a number of calls to Othmann as teams are curious about his status and whether he’s a long-term fit for the Rangers going forward. But he’s not a focal point, not someone they’re really considering or trying to move.”

NHL Injuries: Ducks, Stars, Oilers, Islanders, Leaves, Golden Knights, Capitals and more

And don’t forget, they invested a first round in Othmann. They’re not going to give it away for nothing, so they’re looking for something important in return. And they’re hoping he gets off to a good start in Hartford right now. Has started this season well and is someone they can bring up and make him part of this lineup for the second half of the year.

But they are certainly interested or open to calling on him, and like the rest of the wingers in their system who haven’t quite figured it out yet. That if the right deal came together, they wouldn’t be afraid to move him. It’s just that they’re not actively pushing. It’s more like teams are calling with interest, thinking they might be able to get him on the cheap. And that’s the idea that I think was important to dispel here.”
