NHL Rumors.com Note: O’Reilly has one year left on his contract with a cap hit of $4.5 million. He has no trade protection, but Trotz as mentioned they treat him as if he does have protection. In 53 games this season, O’Reilly has 18 goals and 33 assists heading into Thursday night.

TSN: The Toronto Maple Leafs are not ready to throw in the towel on their season, according to Darren Dreger. Their four-game road trip before the Olympic break will play a big role in what they do next (they lost their first game last night), whether they become sellers or not. GM Brad Treliving will have to see what options are available.
“That includes figuring out what the market looks like for some of his pending unrestricted free agents. Players like Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, Troy Stecher and Calle Jarnkrok. He has to balance that and compare it to what expanding some of those pieces might look like as well.”

Buyer or seller decision time is approaching for the Columbus Blue Jackets
TSN: The Columbus Blue Jackets are 6-1 after firing Dean Evason and hiring Rick Bowness. They don’t want to be sellers, but where they sit before the Olympic deadline will determine whether they are buyers or sellers, Pierre LeBrun said. Currently there are not many sellers, which frustrates buyers. There will be options if the Blue Jackets want to sell.
“The Blue Jackets have some interesting running UFAs. They have Boone Jenner, they have Mason Marchment – who they traded for, but there was always the possibility of flipping him – they have Charlie Coyle, Erik Gudbranson.”
The mid-market is thin, so the Blue Jackets will get a lot of calls on Coyle. Jenner is a popular guy in Columbus, so there’s a chance they’ll hold on to him and try to expand him.
