NHL Rumors: Logan Cooley has no urgency to sign an extension

Long-term contracts are different for a 21-year-old than for someone older

Daily confrontation: Logan Cooley’s agent, Brian Bartlett, on the contract situation with the Utah Mammoth forward. The 21-year-old is eligible for a contract extension, but there is no rush.

Irfaan Gaffar: “There was a report out of Utah that suggested that, you know, there may have been a contract rejection with, you know, Logan Cooley and, and the Utah mammoth. I just want to get your, you know, response to that, or clear up any kind of air that may have been there.

And you know, my understanding is that it’s Utah, now we see what they do with their practice facilities, see what they do with the experience in the arena. That it’s becoming a place that you know people are going to want to come play, and hockey is definitely growing in that community.

Bartlett: “Yes, Utah is definitely becoming a destination for hockey players to go to. The management team, the ownership team, as I talked about before, and in terms of new teams, have done everything they can to build a winner there. So they’re still going strong.”

And yeah, specifically for Logan Cooley, you don’t want to comment on certain offers or anything. I don’t, that it certainly didn’t come from us. I don’t think it came from the team, from the team. There are many things you can remove directly from X, so that could be one of them.

But you know, we’ve had conversations in much the same light. A little bit different, I guess, for a 21 year old, if you’re talking about term, right? As if this is the case, as a 21 year old he has one year left on his contract so there is no urgency or rush yet. Eight years later.

Nine years ago he was twelve years old, right? Like, oh, why don’t you make a decision for nine, like 50% of my life, right? So long-term contracts, for everyone, to say this is not specific to Utah. This isn’t specific to Logan Cooley. This is specific to everyone. That it’s, you know, a big decision. There is so much involved that there is no rush, especially with another year to go.

But you know, I think you have a few guys in that cycle that draw well, and then everyone’s mind goes to, ‘Okay, who’s next? Who is in this class? Where is it going? Everyone is in a unique situation so you don’t have to sign 11 months before your contract is up. So, um, but the conversations with Utah have been good.”
