In today’s roundup of NHL rumors, are the Philadelphia Flyers a team that could be targeting Vancouver names? There is a clear link between the coach and some former players. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers have pushed back on all reports that they would be open to a move for Stuart Skinner with no clear upgrade in sight. Finally, the St. Louis Blues received some unfortunate injury news on Monday, and the team is also working on an extension with defenseman Philip Broberg. What could his next deal be worth?
Does Tocchet have any Canucks players in his sights?
Philadelphia is reportedly looking to acquire a center via trade. Interestingly, Vancouver has players that Flyers coach Rick Tocchet likes. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was told to keep an eye on Philly when it came to Vancouver players.
As for who Tocchet might be looking at, that’s unclear. Frank Seravalli had already linked the Flyers to Quinn Hughes if he ever became available, but the most likely names could be Keifer Sherwood or even Elias Pettersson.
Oilers push back on Skinner trade story
Friedman also corrected an earlier report during his report last episode of the 32 thoughts podcast, when he said he was told the Edmonton Oilers aren’t making any lateral moves.
He explained that the Oilers could make another move before the end of the season. He noted:
“I just don’t think they agree with our hypothesis, Kyle… I had a few people tell me they wouldn’t be surprised if Edmonton doesn’t make any goal decisions or major decisions until the end of the year. They get through the year and then they make major decisions based on how everything goes. And I’ll tell you this, I had a few teams tell me they don’t believe that’s true, they think Edmonton is going to keep watching, and if something comes along that they like, they will.” āThey’re not going to just kick the season or say we can’t do this right now, but they do agree that their position hasn’t changed, which is not a lateral move.ā

He added that the Oilers don’t believe this makes any sense for them with their limited assets, and they won’t do it.
Blues lose Snuggerud and Toropchenko and try to sign Broberg
The St. Louis Blues released a statement Monday noting that forward Jimmy Snuggerud will be out of action for at least six weeks. The team announced that the 21-year-old suffered a left wrist injury that will require surgery.
In addition to Snuggerud’s operation, the Blues announced that striker Alexey Toropchenko will be out week after week after suffering significant burns to his legs in a home accident.
There are also reports that the Blues have not yet started contract talks with defender Philip Broberg. They would like to sign him, but are not in a big hurry. Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic writes:
“The Athletic projected an AAV of 6.7 million, but with Broberg’s play so far, his next deal will likely be an eight-year, $64 million ($8 million AAV) extension, or even more. He will be a restricted free agent on July 1, if not signed by then.”
