Would Artemi Panarin make sense for the Colorado Avalanche?

Daily confrontation: Jesse Montano was asked this week on Daily Faceoff’s Morning Cuppa Hockey if Artemi Panarin would make sense for the Colorado Avalanche. They’ve probably checked in on Panarin and the Avs could be open to making a big move, but Panarin might not be that guy.

Jonny Lazarus: ‘Joe Albany said, ‘Ask Jesse if the Avs are interested in Panarin.’ Obviously you hear all the Panarin rumors. But for me, I don’t necessarily want to give you an answer here, but like, in my opinion, Colorado, adding Panarin almost puts too many chefs in the kitchen, right?

NHL Rumors: The New York Islanders are open to trading their first-round pick

As if you’ve seen that happen before with teams. I don’t know if the Avalanche needs a talent or superstar of Panarin’s quality right now because who knows if that will mess up the Feng shui a bit.”

Montano: “Yeah, there’s only so many people you can fit in there, in that right circle to take one timer, right? Between (Nathan) McKinnon and (Martin) Necas, and then you add Panarin, you know, it looks like I said a minute ago: If there’s a player on the market that the front office thinks can make the team better, then they’ll look at it.”

So, you know, it sounds like the Avs have at least signed on. I think a lot of other teams are saying, ‘Hey, what, what’s the price of that?’

To be honest, I’m with you Johnny, I don’t think it makes that much sense. Just because you suddenly say, okay, so that’s a play that you plug somewhere in your top six, either with (Brock) Nelson and (Valeri) Nichushkin or with McKinnon and Necas.

But that means moving a guy who really is a top six player to the third line. What do you need to move to make the money work? You know, where else does that leave a hole in your roster?

So look, like Artemi Panarin, that’s a 90, 95 point guy. He’s obviously a very, very good player. I think you take a look at it, but I just don’t think, I just don’t think it makes a lot of sense for the Avs in terms of, I just don’t see where he really fits on this roster.

But look, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Chris McFarland won’t put a big twist on something. So I’m certainly not going to sit here and say, ‘No, that’s not something that they’re going to, you know, that they’re going to be interested in or that they’re going to look at.’

NHL Rumors: Robert Thomas, and who is interested in Artemi Panarin

I just don’t think that when it comes down to it, if they were to make that transaction, it would be difficult to figure out where exactly everything is connected.
