NHL Rumors: Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Blues, Blackhawks, Mammoth and Predators

NHL Rumors: Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Blues, Blackhawks, Mammoth and Predators

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman: Quinn Hughes is unavailable, and doesn’t think the Vancouver Canucks want to trade Filip Hronek and Conor Garland. Don’t think Tyler Myers would give up his trade protection.

  • Jason Brough: Thomas Drance wrote of the Vancouver Canucks: “a clear focus on considering player trades that will see NHL talent flow out in pursuit of younger players, and perhaps even draft picks.”
  • Marco D’Amico: (About Hronek) “It cost Vancouver a 1st and 2nd place finish to acquire him from Detroit when he was younger. I imagine the cost for Hronek, if he ever became available, would be higher than that now, even with an NMC.”
  • Keith Kavanaugh: (from PuckPedia) Full NMC: E. Pettersson (F), Boeser, DeBrusk, Hronek, M. Pettersson, Myers and Lankinen
Partial NTC: Kane, O’Connor and Blueger
Expiring UFA/RFAs Kane, Blueger, Sherwood, Reichel, Kampf, Karlsson, Sasson, Forbort and Joseph

It would be a surprise if the Calgary Flames do not renew GM Craig Conroy, who is in the final year of his contract.

It could be time for the Edmonton Oilers to consider trading Stuart Skinner, even if it would only be a lateral move, something they said they didn’t want to do. He has a budget-friendly cap hit of $2.6 million. Does anyone think they can find success elsewhere?

  • NHL Rumors Report: Kypreos on Sportsnet: “The strongest speculation ties Jordan Binnington to Edmonton; the Oilers are also looking at signing a defenseman from St. Louis at the same time. That potential deal would most likely be built around Stuart Skinner’s return to St. Louis.”

Nick Kypreos introduced St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington to the Oilers. I believe the Oilers would need Binnington’s permission if the Blues wanted to do that.

Goaltender Laurent Brossoit is practicing with the Chicago Blackhawks and will likely have a conditioning stint in the AHL. There’s no place for him in Chicago.

The Utah Mammoth is looking to add and has many choices and prospects.

Don’t believe Filip Forsberg’s trade speculation at this point and it’s hard to see them wanting to keep their salaries.

  • Jim Biringer: “Barry Trotz said on 102.5 the Game that everything from letting the coach go to moving assets is on the table now and we’re going to have access to all those things and make those decisions.”
  • NHL Rumors Report: Elliotte Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show on Ryan O’Reilly rumors: “For me, he probably has to make the biggest decision because you know how many teams are going to be lining up to get him”
