The Buffalo Sabers should keep Alex Tuch as their own rental unless they get a ridiculous offer
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on 32 thoughts: The Podcast – What will change for the Preds? episode, on the Buffalo Sabres. They should keep Alex Tuch as their own if they can’t get him extended before the trade deadline. They have said they are not going to make their team worse, and that it would take a big bid to move Tuch.

Friedman: “I’m keeping an eye on Buffalo. You know, they’re going to have to make an interesting decision with Alex Tuch. I think what I’ve heard about the Sabers is they’re not going to make their team worse.”
Edmonton heads into the Olympic break looking for answers on the blue line and the bench
Kyle Bukauskas: “Oh, that’s not possible.”
Friedman: “Yes, that’s not possible.
Bukauskas: “You can’t do that anymore after all this.”
Friedman: “I’ll say this as if that’s a team with a lot of choices and prospects. Unless you get a ridiculous offer, I’m keeping him for now.”
I mean, you have two weeks until the Olympics to see if anything changes. But if I own the Sabres, I’d say if things continue like this, he’ll be our own hire. We’re going for it. And I’ve heard they’ve been telling people that we’re not making our team worse.”
Vincent Trocheck is now the top trade target
Pike Messier: Frank Seravalli on Frankly Hockey on Vincent Trocheck as top commodity ahead of the March 6 NHL trade deadline.
John Buccigross: “And let’s look at your latest list of trade targets, because right at the top we see a New York Ranger in Vincent Trocheck. Again, that return should be better, because there will be several teams that would love to add a player like him.”
Seravalli: “Yes, he’s a very hot commodity because just look at him in the Olympics for Team USA. He’s incredibly versatile. He plays big minutes. Plays above his size, like he plays meaner and bigger.”
And he can play anywhere in your lineup with that versatility, but with the productivity. Not far off a point per game, 36 points in 42 games. And to this is added the cost certainty of a very reasonable contract for the coming years. That really corresponds to a thin center market.
This is the man. And with all due respect to Nazem Kadri, who we will talk about in a moment, or maybe even Elias Pettersson. Vincent Trocheck is a very well-known product. There are no questions, as with Pettersson: what do we get here?
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames and Minnesota Wild
You know exactly what you’re getting and you know where to plug them into your setup. And that’s why the Rangers, in my opinion, have the best piece in this market.
