David Pagnotta: “You represent Alex Tuch. We know there has been an open line of communication. Is there anything you can update us on regarding his status with the Sabres?”
Bartlett: “Yeah, no update at this point. The communication, like you said, has been good. Been consistent all summer. You know, we’ve had some good conversations. I kind of got the parameters of what everyone was thinking.
It is very clear to us that the Buffalo Sabers would like to have Alex Tuch re-sign for the long term. That was communicated very well, very clearly and very effectively by Kevin Adams and the staff there. And I think hopefully we let them know that Alex would love to stay in Buffalo as well.
You know, we weren’t able to get the deal done before the season, and at this point we just put it on the back burner. Obviously, things haven’t gotten off to a perfect start there, in the first week in Buffalo, in terms of wins and losses. I think, you know, I saw him here in Boston the other day. Competitive games are played hard. They don’t give up, like I still think they’re a better team than their record.
But I think we’ve all decided it’s best to just try to get some wins and focus on what’s going on. They’ve had some injuries. Alex is a leader on that team, both in terms of play and kind of, you know, in the room. So he wants to focus on that, without distractions. So we just wanted to let everyone know, like we’re putting this on the back burner for a moment. That doesn’t mean we close the door on signing. He doesn’t mean anything by it, it just means that you know he has to try to help the Buffalo Sabers win during this time.
