The Vancouver Canucks may not want a full rebuild, and it would be tough if they did because of so many trade clauses
Then Murphy: Vancouver Canucks president Jim Rutherford doesn’t think they need to undergo a “complete rebuild.”
They will look to move more players to save some draft picks. They don’t plan on moving their first-round picks unless they get a really good young player back.
Then Murphy: Rutherford was advised in the offseason that it was highly unlikely that Quinn Hughes would sign a long-term deal with the Canucks.
- Farhan Lalji: “Rutherford made it clear that the indication he got 1.5 years ago was more of a feeling than anything else. But in the offseason, it was communicated to them by Quinn’s camp that it was highly unlikely he would stay here.”
Sekeres and Price: (before last night’s trade) David Pagnotta on how difficult it would be for the Vancouver Canucks to do a proper teardown and rebuild given the number of no-moves and no-trade clauses they have and will have.
NHL Trade: Vancouver Canucks Trade Quinn Hughes to Minnesota
“When you move Quinn Hughes and you bring in all these younger assets, even if they’re at the NHL level or just starting to get there.
When you go through a rebuild, you have seven guys with no-movement clauses, two more guys with partial no-movement clauses, and you get even more no-movement clauses next summer. I don’t know how you can properly navigate a remodel unless you somehow convince them all to say, “Yes, you can move me.” I don’t care anymore.’
I just don’t think that’s realistic. So even with Hughes, even if you make that move and you know, bring in certain pieces, I don’t see a complete teardown yet. It doesn’t count me.
