Connor McDavid And Jake Wallman‘s late-game heroics helped the Oil squirters their second comeback win in the third period of 2025-2026 with multiple goals. Three of the four games on Monday were decided by a one-goal margin, two of which ended in extra time.

* Jake Wallman and that of New Jersey Simon Germany combined for a rare NHL performance when both defensemen scored a game-tying goal within the final minute of regulation.

* Game two of an NHL on TNT double header will feature two of the NHL’s best scorers Nathan Mackinnon And Leo Carlsson when the Avalanche And Ducks meet at Ball Arena.

McDAVID AND WALMAN CLAIM OILERS COMEBACK IN OVERTIME WINNING. . .

The Oil squirters were 3-1 behind after 40 minutes, but Connor McDavid‘s highlight-reel goal in the opening minute of the third period breathed new life into his team. Despite conceding a fourth goal shortly afterwards, McDavid scored another goal earlier Jake Wallman (2-1-3) tied the game with a shorthanded goal with 58 seconds left in regulation and picked up a primary assist on Jack Roslovic‘s winner 56 seconds into overtime. Edmonton is the only team to have two third-period comeback wins with multiple goals this season.

* The Oil squirterswho scored a goal in the final minute of regulation time for the third time in franchise history (December 21, 2024 and November 28, 2022) and then scored a goal in the first minute of overtime (December 21, 2024 and November 28, 2022), has recorded multiple third-period comeback victories with two goals in one season for the fifth time in 20 years. The others: 2013-14 (5), 2021-22 (2), 2010-11 (2) and 2005-06 (2).

* McDavid scored multiple goals in the third period of a game for the 10th time to draw the game Glenn Anderson for the fourth most cases in franchise history, behind Wayne Gretzky (25), Jari Kurri (17) and Mark Messier (11).

* Walman became the first player Oil squirters history to score a tying shorthanded goal in the final minute of regulation and only the ninth defenseman ever. The last NHL skater to do this was Vladimir Tarasenko (59:40 on December 15, 2022).

. . . WHILE PANTHERS AND ISLANDERS ALSO EXISTS CLOSE GAMES TO WIN

The Panthers (8-7-1, 17 points), Islanders (8-6-2, 18 points) and Oilers (7-6-4, 18 points) each emerged victorious in close games during a four-game Monday – a trend that the 2025-26 NHL schedule has highlighted at this stage of the season (255 GP). A close game is defined as a one-goal game or a two-plus-goal game with an empty net goal.

* Brad Marchand (1-1-2) extended his goal streak to five games – the longest by a Panthers player age 37 or older in franchise history – and pocketed two points to move within two of 1,000 for his career, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves to earn his 437th career victory. He tied Jacques Plant for ninth on the NHL’s all-time wins list.

* Matthew Schaefer collected his seventh assist of the season after a go-ahead goal in the third period before Simon Germany tied the game for the Devils with five seconds remaining in regulation – just to have Mathew Barzal score 1:15 into overtime. Schaefer (5-7—12 in 16 GP) surpassed Erik Brewer (5-6-11 in 1998-99; age 19) for the second most points in a season by any Islanders teenage defender.

* Nearly two hours after Nemec (9:29 PM ET) the Devils Save a point and force extra time, Edmonton’s Jake Wallman (11:16 PM ET) did this for the victor Oil squirters. Monday marked the seventh day in NHL history when multiple defensemen scored a game-tying goal within the final minute of regulation. The others: November 3, 2021, January 18, 2014, March 27, 2013, March 19, 2010, November 9, 1991 and December 22, 1935.

FOX ASSIST TWO OF SIX RANGERS GOALS AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
Adam Fox (0-2-2) was one of five Rangers players with multiple points, both of which came in the first period as New York earned its first win at Madison Square Garden this season. Fox (3-10-13), who is ranked third among defensemen in 2025-26, will donate $1,023 for every goal he scores and $523 for every assist he records this season to Tackle ALS, an organization helping the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital develop therapies that repair or reverse damage caused by ALS and ultimately prevent the disease.

* Fox, who first debuted for the Rangers in 2019-2020, now leads his team in assists and points this season thanks to his 29th career multi-assist stint. He passed Brad Park (28) for third most among Rangers defenders, alone behind Brian Leetch (70) and Ron Greschner (30).

WESTERN CONFERENCE LEADERS CONTACT DURING NHL ON TNT DOUBLEHEADER
A nine-game Tuesday is highlighted by Veterans Appreciation Night presented by Navy Federal Credit Union on TNT, starting with the second meeting between the Browns And Maple leaves in the space of four days and culminating in a clash between the Central Division leaders Avalanche and leader in the Pacific Division Ducks.

* The Ducks (11-3-1, 23 points) are off to their third-best 15-game start in terms of points in franchise history (tied), trailing only 2006-07 (11-0-4, 26 points) and 2012-13 (12-2-1, 25 points), and are currently the only division leader to miss the playoffs last season.

* Anaheim (4.13 G/GP) and Colorado (4.00 G/GP) are the two highest scoring clubs in the NHL this season, with the Ducks conceding more than four goals in six consecutive games and the Avalanche they scored a total of 14 over the past two games. Anaheim can score more than four goals in seven straight games for the first time in franchise history (also 6 GP from December 31, 2013 – January 11, 2014), while Colorado can score 20 goals in a three-game span for the second time in nearly 30 years (also 21 from December 6-10, 2021).

* The game will feature two of the NHL’s best point scorers Nathan Mackinnon (14-15—29 in 16 GP) and Leo Carlsson (10-15—25 in 15 GP). MacKinnon could become the first player to have three consecutive four-point games since then Steve Yzerman (3 GP in 1992-93 with DET), while Carlsson can become the second player Ducks history to post five consecutive multi-point outings, next Paul Kariya (6 GP from 9-21 March 1995).

FERRARO’S IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY IS EMPHASIZED IN ADVANCE SHARKS TO ESPN+
Mario Ferraro is set to suit the Sharks tonight on ESPN+, but his impact goes far beyond the ice. Ferraro is an ambassador for Hockey Fights Cancer and uses his platform to help people battling the disease. He is also one of two players selected by the NHLPA to receive a custom HFC jacket designed in honor of the people he lost to cancer, including his grandparents, his uncle, his mother and his wife’s uncle.

* Last season in collaboration with the Sharks Foundation, Kids & Art Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, Ferraro participated in an art workshop for pediatric oncology patients, designed to provide youth with a moment of peace, creativity and joy. He sat with them, painted, listened, and reminded each child and their family that they were not alone.
