NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Blake Lizotte and Evgeni Malkin have been placed on IR with upper-body injuries and are listed week-to-week. Malkin missed Sunday’s match after scoring two goals and an assist the game before.

Forward Rickard Rakell skated for the first time since his surgery in October. He has been out for 19 games.

Adam Kimelman: San Jose Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov missed last night’s game due to illness, and they don’t know if he will be ready for Thursday’s game against Toronto.

Sean Farrell: Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman left last night’s game in the first period with an undisclosed injury.

“It’s a little concerning, so we’ll have him re-evaluated here,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “We’ve got a few more games on this road trip. But it’s hard to lose the big man; he’s such an important part of our team. So fingers crossed.”

Sportsnet 590 The FAN: Nick Kypreos on Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev: “They’re going to decide if surgery is needed or not… There’s a belief that if they do it, he won’t be out for the rest of the season.”

Lindgren: “Chucky is positive… Hopefully today and tomorrow he takes some positive steps (towards) a possible return to the ice. But we’ll see. That will be determined.”

TSN: Darren Dreger said Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck could start shooting soon. He wants to return this weekend, but the Jets are being more cautious.

NHL Rumors: Whether or not to allow a team to talk to a pending UFA before making an acquisition

“So it’s very unlikely he’ll be back in the fold this weekend, but I’d like to have him back in net and possibly start for the Jets next week.”
