After the success of the Four Nations Faceoff last February, the NHL runs away from the NHL All-Star Game, at least for this year. There will be another event, but it is unclear what that event will be.
2026 NHL All-Star Game must be North America versus the world
As part of the new Collective Bargain agreement (MKBA), the NHL and NHLPA agreed to send the players back to the Olympic Games from 2026. The first thought was to have an All-Star game in 2026. During the Stadium series of 2024 in New Jersey, the Competition was given. However, with the players on their way to the Olympic Games, the plans changed.
Some of those plans will organize UBS Arena, the home of the New York Islanders, an Olympic shipping event in 2026 and a number of All-Star Game in 2027. What those events will be, is still a person’s gamble because NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly Bernsta and Dennis told Daly told Daly Network Radio as part of the European Player Media Tour.
Dave Pagnotta: “We know that there will be some sort of shipping on Long Island in February. Probably that is still the case.”
Bill Daly: “That’s it. We use John F Kennedy Airport as a kind of Hubstad for players to fly to Milan. So we create a kind of event around the broadcast for those players.”
Pagnotta: “Deputy commissioner of the National Hockey League, Bill Daly. And then follows that with the following season, with the formal all star format back to a certain extent on Long Island. Was it a challenging attempt to try to find out what the best turn could be, what for this?”
Daly: “Yes, I mean, it was complicated by a number of things, and it is still somewhat in Flux in terms of finding out what it is that we want to do respect for 2026 and 2027. We know that we are both in Long Island, and we work with the club, we work with the players’ association about concepts and ideas.”
NHL rumors: There will be tweaks at the NHL version of 2026
As Daly said, they still work on concepts for both events. The key will try to make the All-Star game or extravaganza as compelling as four countries, such as President and NHL content and Events Steve Mayer told NHLrumors.com.
“And I think it might have changed the dynamics of all the stars that are making progress,” said Mayer. “We have not made a decision at all on the basis of four nations or Olympic Games, on what exactly we are going to do with our All-Star game, which we have announced that it will be on UBS Arena in Long Island next year. But we will look for it for a long and loud look at what the future of the All-Star is, and how do we make it as four nations?”
The latter part is perhaps a bit tricky, as Nhlrumors.com has documented. You will never be able to recreate that atmosphere that four countries had in an All-Star event. But whatever the NHL and NHLPA decide for 2026 and 2027 on Long Island will be good. It will be interesting to see what the ultimate product and the concept will be by 2027.
