Newcastle United’s official announcement sees the young NUFC star loaned out to Spain

Antonio Cordero (better known as Antonito Cordero) will now play for Cadiz for the rest of this season.

An official announcement from Newcastle United on the last day of 2025 revealing the news.

Antonito Cordero returns to Spain on loan after his one-year contract with Westerlo in Belgium was terminated.

Like so many other loan deals involving Newcastle United’s young players, the teenage winger’s move to Belgium has proven to be a disaster after arriving from Malaga this summer.

As in so many other cases where young NUFC players are loaned out to get enough first-team football… but then don’t, Antonito Cordero has not been given a single league start for Westerlo and instead managed just 87 minutes in seven brief appearances from the bench.

Many Newcastle fans are pointing the finger at Shola Ameobi, who has been the loan coordinator/manager at NUFC since 2019, overseeing young players on loan.

Cadiz club president Manuel Vizcaino had previously revealed that the Spanish club were trying to sign Antonito Cordero.

Before joining Newcastle United this summer, Antonio Cordero was regarded as one of the best emerging young talents in Spain and attracted interest from many clubs. In the 2024/25 season, Cordero scored thirteen direct goals for Malaga, scoring six times and getting seven assists.

Cadiz are busy trying to reach La Liga, currently sixth in the table and looking for extra quality that can help them secure promotion to the Spanish top tier.

Newcastle United official announcement – December 31, 2025:

‘Antonio Cordero has returned from a rental period at KVC Westerlo and will be loaned to Cádiz CF for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season.

The 19-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions in Belgium, with Westerlo currently sitting 10th in the 16-team Belgian Pro League.

Antonio returns to Cádiz after spending the 2016/17 season in the club’s youth academy, and will now represent the first team in a competition he knows well.

The winger made 39 appearances for Málaga in the Spanish Segunda División last season before sealing the move to the Magpies.’
