How close are Newcastle United’s players to a ban in all competitions by the end of 2025?

I have just checked and updated the situation with the Newcastle United players and how close they are to suspension in the three competitions. This update comes as we reach the end of 2025.

So how many yellow cards have been collected in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup, considering how close they are to missing matches.

The Premier League rules are that if you get five bookings in the first 19 PL games of the season, you will receive a one-match ban.

Then 10 yellow cards within the first 32 PL matches of the season will result in a two-match suspension.

With a three-match ban if you manage to get fifteen yellow cards in a Premier League season.

After Newcastle United’s 19 games in the Premier League this season, here is the yellow card situation for the PL.

The 2025/26 Premier League standings for Newcastle United players and yellow cards:

Bruno 4, Joelinton 4, Branden 3

Thiaw 2, Ramsey 2, Livramento 1, Trippier 1, Pope 1, Tonali 1, Willock 1

(Dan Burn has received a total of five yellow cards, but only three of these count towards the total for suspension purposes as two came in the match against Brentford and brought a red card and immediate one-match suspension)

The biggest news on this is that our inspirational captain Bruno Guimaraes has now avoided picking up a fifth booking in the first 19 Premier League games, avoiding a one-match ban.

Joelinton picked up a fourth Premier League yellow card of the season at Burnley on Tuesday evening, but both he and Bruno Guimaraes are safe for the time being. They just need to avoid picking up another six yellow cards in the next thirteen PL matches to avoid a two-match suspension.

What about the Champions League and possible suspension for Newcastle United players?

These are the UEFA rules…
Article 63.02

From the first match in the league phase, players and team officials will be suspended for the next league match after three warnings, which did not result in a red card, and after any subsequent odd warnings (fifth, seventh, ninth, etc.).
Article 63.03

Single yellow cards and pending suspensions will always be carried over to the next phase of the competition, except in the cases described in Article 63.04 below.
Article 63.04

As an exception, all yellow cards and pending suspensions will expire after the play-offs. They will not be carried over to the competition phase. In addition, all yellow cards expire after the quarter-finals. They do not advance to the semi-finals.

The 2025/26 Champions League standings for Newcastle United players and yellow cards:

Branden 2, Joelinton 2, Thiaw 2, Ramsdale 1, Gordon 1, Willock 1

As you can see, after the 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen and six games played, Thiaw, Burn and Joelinton are just one yellow card away from a one-match ban.

If any of the three are booked at home against PSV Eindhoven on January 21, 2026, they will miss PSG away a week later.

The 2025/26 Carabao Cup standings for Newcastle United players and yellow cards:

Schar 2, Joelinton 1, Thiaw 1, Trippier 1, Woltemade 1

Two yellow cards in the rounds before the semi-final means you will miss the next match.

So now that Fabian Schar has received a second yellow card against Fulham in the quarter-final, he will miss the first leg of the semi-final against Manchester City.

In the Carabao Cup, the slates are wiped clean in terms of yellow cards after the quarter-final. So there is no danger of missing the second leg of the semi-final or the final due to yellow cards.
