A Newcastle United training this Tuesday morning.
Eddie Howe’s players prepare for the Athletic Bilbao match on Wednesday evening.
A win in that Champions League match would strengthen United’s position in the top eight of the Swiss League stage.
The top eight automatically qualify and the next sixteen enter the play-offs.
Eddie Howe’s side currently have six points from their opening three league games, with five to go.
What clues did this Newcastle United training give us ahead of Athletic Bilbao?
Well, good news and bad news.
The media were given access to Newcastle United’s training on Tuesday and the good news is that Kieran Trippier was involved after being badly missed at West Ham on Sunday due to illness.
Lewis Hall was also prominently featured in the training footage. He returned to the matchday squad on Sunday, but was an unused substitute.
After Sunday’s game, Eddie Howe said Anthony Gordon had felt his hip a little. But he was also prominently present in the images of this morning’s training.
On the bad news front, there was no trace of Bruno Guimaraes in Newcastle United’s training footage this morning.
However, Keith Downie from Sky Sports has now provided this update/explanation:
“Bruno Guimaraes was absent from Newcastle United’s training this morning as he is suffering from a mild illness.
“The Newcastle United captain has been undergoing a recovery session indoors and there are hopes he will be available to play in the Champions League tomorrow evening.”
