We are only a few weeks away from the fourth anniversary of the takeover of Newcastle United.
I relate this moment to the arrival of the baby Jesus.
I know that nowadays this can lead to an armed police who visit my allocation, but I will still call it as BS (before Saudis) and AA (Na Ashley)
It might only be a little more than 200 weeks since BS AA became, so it can be difficult to remember what your thoughts were then.
Unless you happen to write for the Mag.
There is no stagnation of the bloody internet. It is forever, warts and such.
During the later BS years I was really beyond the care. I literally signed up that we were relevant as a club again during my life. Then a bunch of people from the Middle East and the Geordie World will shift on his axis.
In a very short time they help us Wembley, Champions League, a real trophy and then the Champions League.
They have been the answer to all my hope and dreams. I couldn’t have asked for more. I was in total support for the new boys.
Except that that is not entirely true.
A few months before the takeover of Newcastle United, you might remember that news about “The Big Six” was part of a European Super League.
To say that I was irritated about this couple entitled Gits with the thought that they could walk away with all the money and somehow in the Premier League is a huge understatement.
As saying that Alexander Isak’s return to St James Park will be a bit of a stormy affair.
So to take the trouble to look it up, here is the core of that article. I think my thoughts were pretty clear …
“They cannot treat the other clubs with contempt, thinking that we have to go with what they want, because they think that without them the Premier League is nothing.
If we are shot of these six, then TV deals will clearly fall and the wages of players will do the same, but is that a bad thing?
For example, I would rather play forest in a post “Big Six” League, than being purchased by the Saudis and being part of a European Super League. “
Why am I picking this up? Well, two reasons.
If and when the idea comes up again, Newcastle United is invited this time.
After all, we now have membership costs at the bank. And of course we could spend our money in a European Super League.
Which means that we can actually compete with all the big boys.
And second, would I support it now?
Despite Bloody PSR, despite the fact that we still have to accept that our players are being tapped because we cannot afford the current rate, I still feel the same as then.
I prefer that we still had 10 years like the last four than seeing us playing in a competition where games are brought to America, Australia and China for the global audience.
Can you imagine that Newcastle against Liverpool is being moved to Newcastle New South Wales, 0600 HRS Start?
The recent club World Cup and the plans of La Liga and Serie A clubs to take matches abroad this season, tells me that that is the future for the Mega Clubs.
The question is, would you rather be a mega club, or would it be better to stay behind and play if Villa and Everton (and Sunderland occasionally)
If I was a gokman, I think Newcastle United will be part of a new world order. Old beggars like me may struggle with that, but I am the past, not the future.
