It was a second home game in a row where we had all seen the owners of Newcastle United collect.
When Newcastle United confirmed their Champions League place, despite the defeat against Everton, in May. The owners of Newcastle United met Eddie Howe after the competition to discuss transfer market plans.
As we all know, when they came to Tyneside again two weeks ago, a well-published meeting was held between the Newcastle United owners and Alexander Isak on the Monday prior to the Liverpool match of that night, in an attempt to convince the striker to stay in NUFC at least for this season.
Last Sunday (August 31, 2025) morning I had published an article on the MAG about a number of important announcements that were now expected from the owners of Newcastle United.
When you generally looked at the club, to say from the outside that it all looked a bit of a mess in St James’ park.
Where Eddie Howe keeps everything together, where would we be? More emphatically, where would the owners of Newcastle United be?
Time for the owners of Newcastle United to move the club from a state of chaos.
Not only that, but to place important things to make the club make a good progress, to make progress, to compete in the long term, on and next to the field.
I have mentioned five important announcements that must be expected from the owners of Newcastle United and we have now made two of those five.
Alexander Isaac
This was a forced announcement, the owners of Newcastle United had no choice but to make it.
On Deadline Day we found out where Isak would play his football this season 2025/26 and it will not be in St James’ park.
The Newcastle United owners who release a discount statement of 37 words, and confirmed that Alexander Isak was sold for the highest fee ever paid by a Premier League club. The official announcement explicitly did not include best wishes, good luck, to the rush during his departure. The sale of Isak quickly followed by another official NUFC announcement, which revealed that the signing of Yoane Wissa was completed.
CEO
Twelve months ago we discovered that Darren Eales was forced to resign as the NUFC CEO (Chief Executive Officer) because of the diagnosis of a chronic form of blood cancer. The announcement in September 2024 stated that Eales would hold the fort in the short term until a replacement was identified.
Incredibly really really how long the owners of Newcastle United went through without having a replacement, while it was made pretty clear this summer that Darren Eales was no longer hands-on who held the fort.
On Thursday, David Hopkinson saw the new CEO appointment by the owners of the club. Not for the time.
So what now?
Well, there are three other huge announcements from the Newcastle United owners who are still excellent. Fans wait to see what is happening and when.
Sports director
Mitchell left at the end of the 2024/25 season, but I assume that the owners of Newcastle United had known long before the formal announcement that Paul Mitchell would leave.
For Newcastle United, surgery was operated on all summer without a CEO or sports director, was pretty incredible. Especially if we all knew what an important period was, this was. A huge season with the extra demands of Champions League football, plus understandable raised expectations after the heroic deeds of Eddie Howe last season.
Just like the CEO appointment, this is another that must be filled in as quickly as possible, with the right person.
Ground for training
Even prior to the acquisition of October 2021, we were repeatedly told that a new State of the Art Training Complex was a great priority for the threatening new owners of Newcastle United.
After the acquisition we were told that a number of sites were being considered, only a case of deciding which. Land De Reuben family owns Newcastle Racecourse, was generally considered the preferred option.
Now four years after the acquisition, about six years after that takeover process started, not even any plans that were released. No site made public.
Instead, the existing training field is patched. Furthermore, patching announced in March when we were also told by Darren Eales; “Although we look at the medium term for a new training field.”
I hope that we will soon be announced in the medium term …
New stadium
A number of supposed announcement data has been passed on to this very important necessity.
In March 2025 Darren Eales said it had been reduced again:
“We want to do something in the near future.
“We have looked at the feasibility of what is possible and that is what we limit …”
Six months later and still no news.

This is a huge priority for the owners of Newcastle United, the priority, or at least that should be.
The only chance that the club has to compete in the long term, on and next to the field, is to close the financial gap that still exists between NUFC and ‘those’ six Premier League clubs. To do that, a modern new solid stadium with a much greater capacity is an absolute key factor if it will happen. Plus of course, so that tens of thousands of more fans can see their team playing every home game.
