How do you analyze Newcastle’s evolution since your time in the Premier League?

Angel Gomes:

“Newcastle United is a special club in England, with a large fan base.

“St James’ Park is a really nice place to play.

“Over the past two years they have taken another step forward, a new phase.

“The team is really strong now.

“What they have built is impressive. I think the last few years have been excellent for Newcastle.”

How do you see the match against Newcastle United, a very intense team, as we saw again against Manchester City?

Angel Gomes:

“Newcastle are a very strong team physically.

“We are also dealing with this type of team in Ligue 1, but they have a lot of quality.

“I know a lot of the players, I’ve played with and against some of them, so I know it’s difficult.

“But the Velodrome is a special place and in the Champions League it is even more special.

“So we’ll see how the match goes tomorrow.”

What makes it special for you as Englishmen to play against an English club?

Angel Gomes:

“It’s always special for us.

“I don’t think we need to do things differently. We just need to play our game and follow the game plan.”

“It’s always good to be home with the fans at the Velodrome. It’s always a special occasion.

“So I think for us it’s about playing with the same passion and courage that we’ve shown in previous games.”

Is there a danger of euphoria after (the 5-1 away win against) Nice on Friday?

Angel Gomes:

“That’s over, it’s in the past.

“We are looking at Newcastle.

“We have to stay focused and put in a good performance.”
