In Italy, it has been reported that Newcastle United have approached Manu Kone.
However, TMW say their information is that AS Roma have knocked back Newcastle’s interest.
Manu Kone is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder who plays for both France and Serie A.
He started his club career at Toulouse before spending a few years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before signing for AS Roma in the summer of 2024 on a £15 million contract, an initial loan with an obligation to buy.
TMW report that a number of clubs were pursuing Manu Kone and AS Roma rejected an earlier approach from Inter Milan this summer.
The 24-year-old has a five-year contract that does not expire until June 2029. He reportedly has a current salary of 2.8 million euros, around 50,000 euros per week. However, AS Roma wants to tie him to a longer contract.
AS Roma had three different managers last season, but still managed to finish fifth in the league.
This season they have been a surprise package and currently sit at the top of Serie A.
Manu Kone has played every minute of the 12 league matches in which he finished in first place.
There are rumors that Newcastle United are looking to add a midfielder in January. AZ Alkmaar’s 19-year-old Kees Smit is high on Eddie Howe’s wish list as he claimed on Wednesday that Joe Willock is a January target for Crystal Palace.
