Darren Ambrose talked about Newcastle United and of course Alexander Isak.
Ambrose played in United under Sir Bobby Robson, signed by the Robson from his old club Ipswich Town.
The former NUFC player now interviewed the situation in St James’ Park prior to the new season.
How Newcastle is going in their 2025/26 campaign, plus of course the Big Alexander Isak -question that must be answered.
Former Newcastle United player Darren Ambrose spoke with Betway about his old club.
Darren Ambrose asked – can you see a way back at Newcastle United for Alexander Isak?
“Newcastle United fans will definitely accept Alexander Isak, but if I have it as a player I have to ask, will the players accept him?
“In my opinion, yes, they will do that. I don’t think this will cause some disruption in the dressing room.
“I have been there when players want to leave a football club and that is their personal preference, and if they want to leave, then that is up to them.
“So as players you want the best players in your team – and Isak is one of, if not the best player at Newcastle.
“So yes, it will disappoint some players, but if he came back completely, he would of course be accepted in the dressing room. Fans may be a bit different because it might take a little longer.
“First and foremost I hope that he will stay with Newcastle, and if he will eventually stay – and all this Transfersaga is brought to bed – the interesting thing is what August 25 is with Liverpool at home.
“That can be intriguing – regardless of whether he is in Liverpool or Newcastle.
“But we know how support is – a few goals in the first few games and showing that desire and that dedication to the football club, and then he will win them back, 100%.”
Darren Ambrose asked; ‘What happens between Pope and Ramsdale? Would you immediately give Ramsdale no. 1 status or start the season with Pope between the messages? ‘
“I think it’s a strange decision. It is a strange signature for me. This is nothing against Aaron Ramsdale – I think he is a fantastic keeper. He has had a great career so far, of course. He has had a number of degradations about his belt, which is not ideal at Southhampton.
“I just see this as a lateral movement, if they change Nick Pope for Aaron Ramsdale. I think they are both talented, I just think there are more positions at Newcastle who have to sort, instead of the situation of the goalkeeper.
“It was an eyebrow increase. He drew, and I think he will go there to compete for number one. I don’t think he is going there to sit on the couch.
“I think he was told that he might start. I don’t think he would like to see his career as number two in Newcastle – and that can indicate the end of Nick Pope in Newcastle.
“Hopefully not because last season he was involved in moments such as that trophy lift. For them it was a fantastic achievement.
“In general it was an eyebrow -increasing decision, but hopefully Ramsdale can have a successful career at Newcastle.”
Darren Ambrose asked; “If you would choose one or the other for the first game season, to whom would you tend?”
“I would go for Nick Pope for the first game of the season. I just think he has been there long enough. He knows the defenders, the players know.
“He looks like he’s a good character, he looks like he’s loved and Aaron Ramsdale will be when he arrives in the dressing room.
“I would just stay with Nick Pope, I would really do that, and I think he deserves it.
“I think that perhaps the mistake against Celtic can help Eddie Howe in the preseason. He can make the decision and watch, we are going with a new start with Aaron Ramsdale.
“But for me, Nick Pope starts the first game of the season.”
Darren Ambrose asked; “Do you think the Newcastle team is deep enough to process a Premier League and Champions League campaign as it looks now?”
“In terms of a team depth, no, I don’t think they have enough at the moment.
“Of course there is still a few weeks left until the window is closed, but they need reinforcements.
“They have lost Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Lloyd Kelly, who did not play much, but lost those three players and brought Anthony Elanga and Ramsdale in.

“In terms of quality, they have the quality to tackle a European tour and the Premier League, but depth – I think they need more, and I think they might just wait for this situation with Isak to get out of the way before they decide how much they have to spend, which players they need.
“They don’t have long, they don’t have time anymore, but I just feel that they may need four or five more players.”
Darren Ambrose asked; “Where do you think they will end in the Premier League?”
“I don’t think top four or top five. I think they might compete for the last Europa League spot or the Europa Conference place at the moment because we have seen it -they have a great team in terms of quality, but we saw what happened last time in the Champions League.
“Trying to navigate through a Champions League and a Premier League campaign with a small number of players in terms of quality is difficult and they struggled.
“I just think Eddie Howe will know, so he will want to change that and add some players.
“At the moment I think they might compete in the 6th, 7th or 8th place in my opinion.”
