Joe Cole has talked about Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool and England winger discusses Tuesday’s match.
Joe Cole on the chances of Eddie Howe’s side winning when they take on Spurs.
The Newcastle United boss was due to take on Thomas Frank and his team with an 8.15pm kick-off.
Eddie Howe and the Newcastle United players want to make it seven home wins in a row, in all competitions.
Joe Cole speaks for Newcastle United versus Spurs in the Premier League:
“Tottenham was terrible, absolutely terrible this weekend.
“Beated 2-1 at home and in this match twelfth in the Premier League.
“On the other hand, Newcastle, they are starting to take shape and they are starting to motorise.
“The Champions League has been great for Newcastle, we can’t say less than that, they beat Everton 4-1 on Saturday night, and I can only see a home win here.
“I want them to win 3-1, so I’m backing Newcastle to win.”
My thoughts
I can’t really disagree with anything Joe Cole has to say here.
Newcastle United “starting to motor”…? Let’s hope so.
All clubs look for consistency and Newcastle United have certainly had that at St James’ Park, with six home wins in a row.
The overall form in all competitions has not been bad and we are now at the point where the last twelve games have produced eight wins.
However, it is the performances and results of the last two Premier League games that I think have tipped the balance, with the games against Man City and Everton giving the impression that Newcastle United are now hopefully able to put together a sustainable run, especially in the Premier League.
In contrast, Spurs have taken just one point from their last four Premier League matches and three of those four have been played at home. Including the 2-1 home defeat against Fulham on Saturday. While Spurs have lost five and won just one of their last seven games in all competitions, home and away, including when they lost 2-0 to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
Eddie Howe has won all four matches between Newcastle and Spurs at St James’ Park. His team scored fourteen goals in the four games and only conceded twice.
