Newcastle is back in the Champions League, so what does that mean for their transfer plans? Shall they hold Alexander Isak? Keith Downie from Sky Sports News has answered all your questions for the summer …
‘Newcastle can make four signing sessions’
Matt Lambie: What are the most important areas that Newcastle will try to strengthen this window?
Keith downu: Eddie Howe is looking for a new keeper, a right -sided middle back, a right winger and an attacker who can play at the front.
That is the wish list if none of the big batters would leave. For example, if a Bruno Guimaraes or an Anthony Gordon went, he would also have to replace them.
BSCOTT1994: Are we again limited by PSR? If so, how?!
Keith downu: Eddie Howe told us a few weeks ago that they were no longer chained by PSR, thanks to their inactivity in the last three windows.
That felt like a message to his players, who had said that they need help for the following season, just as much as everything else. He followed that by saying that they will be active, but it will not be a mass overhaul.
Although he likes to keep his cards close to his chest, I think he is very honest there and we will see three, maybe four additions this summer.
But the right players must be available, how has shown before he just doesn’t take a place in the team. His plea on Sunday to act quickly the board was very meaningful …
Charlie: What is the budget we have this summer or is too difficult to say?
Keith downu: I would expect Newcastle to spend more than £ 100 million if the deals are in positions on which they concentrate.
‘Newcastle in strong position with Isak’
Liam98: Can Alexander Isak leave?
Keith downu: Champions League qualification makes it considerably easier to hold Alexander Isak. He has left on his contract for three years and the club is in a strong position to hold on and to keep it this summer.
Isak itself will be more satisfied, knowing that he will play in the Champions League if he stays – that was a problem last summer.
However, I feel that the Swede sees one step for itself in the future, and that may be something that we will see next summer if they do not match a new deal.
Isak knows that he can earn more elsewhere, and he is ambitious. Whether his ambitions can be met in Newcastle is still to be seen, but I expect at least one more season in St James’ park.
Just like Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, he will want to see the club acting this summer. They need help.
‘Not adding significant will be harmful’
Jayhaw: How many of a larger team do we need now that we have Champions League football next season?
Keith downu: I think internally and externally, there is a concept that the current team is not strong enough to compete in the Champions League and Premier League.
Newcastle has not signed a note player for three transfer windows, and that will have to change this summer.
Howe has said it itself, and not adding considerable next season will be harmful and beyond … Not least to those current players who received Newcastle in this position.
Who can leave?
Scuba Steve: Which players do you expect to leave the club this summer?
Keith downu: The will of Martin Dubravka, Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson and maybe Joe Willock may leave this summer.
What does Mitchell’s exit mean for transfer plans?
Adam Wright: With Paul Mitchell leaves, who will Leiden the transfer window?
Keith downu: Eddie Howe will lead the window as he has done since he became a member. He and Mitchell did not see it from the start and it felt as if the relationship had become untenable.
I was not surprised when I heard last week that Mitchell was planning to resign. It felt like something had to give.
Niall M: How will Paul Mitchell influence who we focus on?
Keith downu: This will not change their summer goals, because Eddie Howe was on their way.
It probably makes the process streamlined, but in the short term more work means Howe and CEO Darren Eales without Mitchell there to push the deals.
Blythboy: Some news about who could be the new sports director to replace Paul Mitchell?
Keith downu: I haven’t heard that yet and I don’t think the club is at that stage.
Darren Eales replacing as CEO is the more urgent issue, and I see the club going through this summer window without a replacement for Paul Mitchell.
Given that neither Ashworth nor Mitchell lasted for a long time, it is questioning whether they need one.
Howe and his recruitment team have the full support of the owners, given his great success in earlier transfer pendants, not to mention the small issue of success on the field this season.
Your views on the Newcastle transfer star
Thomas Liotaud: Newcastle cannot squeeze an eye for the situation of Lille’s Jonathan David and Angel Gomes, both of whom are free agents this summer.
Ashley Espo: We still wear some Deadwood from the Mike Ashley era – we are three seasons in the new regime and really have to upgrade our second series.
Big Slim: In Eddie Howe we trust, give him the chance to spread his wings and give him a war box. What a season he gave Newcastle.
Neil: Newcastle needs a keeper, in the middle, right winger, striker, a different backup left back and possibly a backup no. 10. We also have to take off a few names.
Sachin Patel: I am a fan of Brentford, don’t sign Bryan Mbeumo.
Stokymag: Bryan Mbeumo can certainly improve the team. I don’t understand how Marc Guehi does that. You can get better for less money.
Gary Midlley: I think it would be good to cash in Anthony Gordon to finance a really best right winger.
Consumption: Eddie Howe tries to sign Rafa Leao from AC Milan and a solid young defender who can learn from Sven Botman and Fabian Schar, plus a young goalkeeper such as James Trafford van Burnley.
Mattnufcdevon: We have seen in the past that not strengthening and entertaining the Champions League can lead to competition and other cup competitions. For me we definitely have to focus a depth, because we still have many players from earlier eras.
John Swan: I want a very big well -done against Eddie Howe and the players, as well as everyone else connected to Newcastle United. We are all so proud of everything that has been achieved this season. I am really looking forward to this summer. HWTL!
